Hey, I did hear from them today but I would not freak out if you didn't. I am sure they did not send all letters out at the same time. I am sure how close you are to the school has an effect on timing as well. Hopefully you will hear by tomorrow!

Okay phew. That is good to know. For some reason I was thinking we would know about a month ago because that is the turn around rate at some other schools my friends applied to but those programs had less applicants and multiple start date so this makes sense. Thanks for letting me know! Good luck to you as well :)

Okay that was around the number I was thinking... Well I emailed the woman in charge of admissions about the nutrition course we have to take. They told me I could take it online but since it is almost $700 and no other school requires it I asked if I could wait and take it in March with an end date of May 10th- just to make sure I got into the program first before shelling out that kind of money. The prereq's start to add up.... Anyways, she said that we would hear after the first of the year. I am assuming we should all know in the month of January. They seem very nice at that school so I have my fingers crossed! Hope that helps!

Hey there, Does anyone know anything about University of Akron's program? I was trying to determine the number of students they had enrolled but could not find the information on the website. I have applied and am waiting to hear back. I was just curious if anyone else had applied and if you know how many students they accept for each class. Thanks!

Hello everyone, I am in the process of applying to accelerated BSN programs. I have some debt from undergrad so I was trying to financially map out nursing school. I keep reading in the literature that hospitals in my area will pay you $10K signing bonuses payable over a two year period or $10K during nursing school to cover costs of classes and supplies. In return the student must commit two years to the hospital- if they leave the hospital they have to repay. I am in Cleveland, and am primarily talking about the program Cleveland Clinic has. To me this seems almost too good to be true- guaranteed employment and money to help with school? I am sure there are GPA requirements etc. Do they only give this to a few kids or is it feasible if you are doing really well in school and willing to commit to a particular hospital? Does anyone know how a school decides where you do your clinicals? All of the nursing schools I am applying to are associated with dozens of hospitals all over the place. I was wondering if usually they let students rank based on interest or geographic location or do they just randomly assign? Thanks!

I would call the school and ask them how they feel about an online chemistry course. My guess is that may be a point against you. Online courses for other requirement may be ok but I would limit it to one- excluding chem and a&p. Chemistry is a really important foundation course. A good base knowledge will help in your understanding of many concepts that you would encounter later on in nursing school. Try to take it in a classroom with a real lab. Tak

Thank you all so much for your posts. I think I will go ahead and take all of my pre-req's, apply to 15 schoos, and pray for the best. Since I have another graduate degree I could always find a job with that if all else fails. As I stated before I am a cancer survivor and during law law school my father was diagnosed with colon cancer. After having half of my immediate family come down with cancer (including myself) my heart just changed. Although I enjoy law school and think I could make a difference, I sort of had this change of heart as to what direction my life should be heading in. Whatever I end up doing, I hope all I learn will help me reach my end goals. Thank you all again for being so helpful!

Hello, I have been considering going to Nursing School for some time and have begun to take the pre-req's. The more I read on this forum, the more concerned I get about my ability to even get into a program. My concern comes from the fact that everyone seems to have a 4.0, or close to it. I am hoping to get into an accelerated BSN program. I already have a B.A. degree in Psychology from a large state school. My undergrad gpa was a 3.7. This put me in the top 12% of my college which had about 25,000 kids in it. I thought I did pretty well until I started reading these message boards :) I am about to finish up my law degree ( I am specializing in Bioethics). I ultimately hope to be both a Research Nurse and a consultant to law firms in legal malpractice cases. I have only completed two pre-reqs- both of which were taken in undergrad. So far my pre-req gpa is a 3.5. To make a long story short, I am concerned that because I do not have a 4.0 I will not get into any programs. I am trying to figure out how everyone could have gotten a 4.0 in College? My brother goes to OSU Medical School and he had a 3.5.... Anyways, I am really anxious to start a new chapter in my life. I am a childhood cancer survivor so I think I can pretty much do what I put my mind to. The question is whether or not these grades will be sufficient? Thank you all for your help!

Hello, I have yet to apply to nursing school, but have begun to plan ahead. I am up to date on all my vaccines (had titers done) with the exception of the hep B vaccine. I am unsure whether the programs I will be applying to require this, however I had an extremely bad reaction to the hep B vaccine with my first dose. My doctor advised against getting it again and has written several medical exemptions for me. Will this be a problem is I get a medical exemption from my doctor? Thanks!

Seriously that is crazy? What was your prerequisite gpa? They told me they weighed both of them equally. Either way I am really sorry. I have a 3.7 so maybe I should not put as many eggs in that basket. The rejection rate is pretty high. Its sad that they are turning down clearly qualified people such as yourself.
