VA Hopeful

Published

Hi guys

I have a question. I went for an interview at the VA hospital, the nurse recruiter liked me, I met the nurse manager she hired me but then told me the waiting period to be called for vetpro is extensive. This was in September 04 2007, now it is October 16, I haven't heard from anyone.

How long does it take for the VA to contact you to come in for vetpro, physical, etc. I brought in all the information they needed and I am still waiting. Please help

should I be worried? It has been a month now

The VA system has a reputation for taking a looooongg time. I have a friend who also applied in Sept, he was "hired" but is still waiting for the official word from HR. On top of that he already worked as a nurse in the federal system for 12+ years and it is still taking this long.

I work at the VA. Not as a nurse but a healthcare tech. I did orientation and my background paperwork in June. It still isn't complete from their end. (I get to work even though). I will have to go through VetPro in the spring. From what I have heard a month is minimum.

It wouldn't hurt to call the nurse recruiter.

I love the VA.

I wouldn't be too worried about the it being only a month. Vetpro slows the hiring process down quite a bit. I would stay in contact with the manager who offered the position to you so they can be sure that you are still interested in the position. Sometimes they can find out where you are in the system, and how much longer it will be before you can get on board. It takes anywhere from 8-12 weeks (depending on the VA) to get in the door. It's the government, and there are a lot of security checks. I know it's long, but it is worth it once you're there.

I wouldn't worry at all! I applied at the VA in March 05. I got a call for a job offer in October...by then i'd already found a job I'd like. It can take a while so be patient!

I found that calling whoever interviewed you and aksing if they have everything they need and letting them know you are still interested, works also. I did that when I got my job at the VA. The guy who interviewed me, actually had thought he had called me, so when i called, he was schocked to find that he had not called me in for orientation (which was the very next day). I waited about three weeks to a month before I called and I wish I would have called sooner.

Can y'all give me the benefits of working at a VA? I have always been very interested.

I am also interested. In fact, I might start a thread to get more direct answers. Thanks.

Hi guys

I don't think my questions clarifies exactly what I am asking.

My question is should I be worried that they have not called me in for anything, not vetpro, not physical, not orientation, nothing and it has been a month?

Question-what is Vetpro?

I have worked for the VA for the past nine years. A month ago I was told I had to put all my information in Vetpro. I had to think back to all my previous 19 yrs. of nursing. The VA does take a long time in the hiring process. But, then what government agency is not slow? I would contact human resources and tell them you are interested in aposition with them, but you have another offer and would like to know how long before thay give you an answer, This should give you an idea. It's worth the wait. The VA has excellent benefits ,job security is also a plus. Good Luck........................:uhoh3:
