Recently, I submitted an application to USF accelerated nursing program and I'm wreck. It has only been a few days and I'm terribly anxious. I have an overall gpa of 3.6 and I volunteered at hospice for a year and a hospital for a year. I have no work experience but I have a CNA license along with a BLS. I'm also certified in vision screening. My essay was about my experience at hospice and my hope for the future, I want to build more clinics in Haiti. Also I have a science background. What are my chances of getting in?
Also I'm hoping to find other people who feel the same or can relate...

Hello,
It seems to me you have a pretty good foundation to enter any nursing school. I understand you being nervous, but I advise not to limit yourself to one institution. No institution is perfect and many can help you reach your goal. Granted, you need to ensure the school you choose to go to is accredited, otherwise you may end up spending a lot of money for nothing.
I suggest you visit the National League of Nurses website to view which schools are accrediated by them. The web page is http://www.nlnac.org/Forms/directory_search.htm
Once you're there, select your state, the program type, click "Search" and voila!
Once you have a list of possible locations, look them up online and read up on their programs. If you have the time, I suggest visiting the campus and ask nursing students about the good and not so good things about the program. You will get a lot of feedback, but it will be your job to discern which complaints are valid and which are not. Then decide what is good for you.
Good luck !

Hello :)
I am interested in applying to the USF program maybe for Spring 2013, I currently have my pre-reqs done and I am 2 classes away from an associates degree in arts. My GPA is not that great (3.2) and I plan on raising it by re-taking some classes I did not do well on over this summer and fall. I have no volunteer experience but I do have work experience at a hospital. I worked as an EKG tech for a year and currently a unit secretary on Med/Surg and Telemetry floor. What do you think my chances are in getting in the program? Are there even any?! What were some of the students that got in GPA's like or work/volunteer experience?
Looking forward to your responses

@Anxious89 I too applied and I have heard from other members on allnurses.com that some ppl at USF were turned down with a 3.9 gpa....but some where also admitted with a 3.5....I know if your a transfer student you have to have at least a 3.65 gpa to even apply. I heard from the nursing admissions department that USF looks at first attempt grades for prerequisites gpa, overall gpa, and personal statement(counts for 40%) I hope this helps. Let me know if you get in and I will do the same!

I just completed my application to USF. You must be accepted through undergraduate admissions before you can complete the SOAR application. How long does this process take? I need to complete the SOAR application by March 01.

I am applying to Fall 2013 Start date for USF Accelerated program. I have a 3.5 GPA and have a number of volunteer expierences in a hospital and for other heath organizations. My undergraduate degree is in PE and Health Ed. I wish USF did reference letters like other schools! I have been accepted as a undergraduate transfer and have to wait until april 1 to apply through SOAR. Where is everyone else applying to? I am applying to the University of Rochester, Marymount University, Wayne State and USF

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know that you'd probably get more responses if you posted this as your own thread :)
