Hello I'd like to start a thread for those who will be attending the 10/18-11/19/10 COT. Perhaps we could get to know each other before going. Sharing advice and thoughts ahead of time would be great.

Hi! I am a new RN. Currently working on a med surge floor in the St. Louis MO area. I am hoping to attend COT in October. I have a friend that is currently at COT now and one that is going in August so hopefully I will have a lot of information to share with everyone here. Excited to meet everyone!
Welcome. I'm eager to learn anything. I have no military background so I need all the advice I can get. My recruiter said the low quarters need to be black low/no heel loafers that can be worn with the dress blues.

Hi all! I am hoping too for Oct but def have a seat in Jan 11. SO we will see I guess. I'm a navy wife, husband retired several yrs back with his 20. I have always wanted to go into the military but my family and husbands career came first. Now all the kids are grown, for the most part. I have 2 boys 23 and 25, both active AF. 2 girls 12 and 19. Presently both my husband I and work for the VA, so the transition will not be too hard for me. This process has taken almost 2 yrs to do from start to finish, I never knew it would be so hard to do.
The low quarters are corframs or as we would call them patent leather shoes, shiny and easily scratched. All the shoes are available at the BX/uniform shop. Cost for them is about 40-50. The heels come in 2 heights, I went for the lower heels for comfort. Boots I got Corcoran Marauders (non steel toe) cost 125 and from what my sons have stated well worth it. One of the AF nurses on another thread suggested Underarmour socks for the boots, $$ but again worth it.
There are several threads on All nurses that have alot of info, Carolinapooh has the best!
Good luck to all and hope to "meet" alot more classmates!
I'm glad to see you are a "mature" nurse. I'm a 41 yo single mom with a 7 yo boy. A new chapter in life. I need to work on my PT. I'm within weight but need to better my numbers. I'm reading the AF Officer's Guide. Very helpful for a newbie like me. I recently read We Band Of Angels. Heart wrenching yet powerful story about the nurses in WWII as POWs. Some of our uniforms can be purchased online at militaryclothing.com without any paperwork. I just purchased ABUs and boots. Thanks for sharing. I agree that Carolina pooh is extremely helpful.
I'm abit older but make it for age...lol! Barely.... The military is an excellent place to start anew, that I know from many people who have been in. I am golden on the crunches as well as body comp push ups I HATE with a passion but do. My run is okay but I know I can do better. I hit the local track and gym quiet abit. The weather here lately has not been good for running ( I am in Maine) too hot and humid and running on a treadmill is not the same as running on a track/field.
I have several items purchased for COT besides uniforms. An iron, travel hairdryer, small lock, watch w a stop watch, pens/pencils, black backpack (got at uniform shop), all my personal care items, internet card for my laptop, small printer, small scissors, etc. So much to get and do. Are you driving or flying to COT? I am probably driving, but again it will depend on the time of yr I go. Winter forget it, but fall would be perfect.
Do you know your base assignment yet?

Hey! I'll be joining you all there in October. I'm from the Detroit area, been an RN for a little over a year now working on a cardiac step down unit and very excited to start the next chapter in my life. Also happy to "meet" others who will be down at Maxwell at the same time. After COT I'm heading to Travis. Anyway glad to see an 11-01 group up and running, take care!
I just got the call....its offical! I am in the Oct class. My recruiter called to say he was getting a print out of the class roll and I was on it!! I had though submitted a letter in May stating that if a spot becames available I would accept it. I am so happy!
Just as a FYI, manny of the classes have pages/groups on Facebook. If you want to see some pictures and get info its a great resource. Mikes Flight ( I think this is the name) was the last class, my recruiters wife was in it and they have over 200 pixs.
Congrats. I'm glad we will be able to chat ahead of time.
Thank you. Yes it will be nice to know someone who will be at COT the same time. I hear the classes are running over 200 students each....ouch! Just finishing up painting my daughter room, a more seller friendly color, now to the track. Hot out so do not know how I will do today. Just doing it daily to work myself up.
I started a facebook page "Air Force COT 11-01". I'm excited to hear and learn. This way we can connect with nonnurses as well :)) my computers won't let me respond to posts on this all nurses blog so all my responses are through my phone. Very tedious typing. :).
I just sent you a note on FB regarding locking down the page. Make it a request to join not a like. If its a like anyone can join and you have no control, with a request only people going to COT 11-01 can join and cut's down completely on the crazies who will like it and cause problems.
