Hi Everyone,
My first time here. Why does urine specific gravity less than 1.005 indicate fluid overload. Please help me understand. Answer is not descriptive in my textbook. Thanks, Stewy

The specific gravity of water is 1.000
Does that help?

If urine specific gravity is less than 1.010 it is dilute - if the urine is dilute there is too much fluid = FVO.
If the urine specific gravity is higher than 1.030 it is concentrated - the is not enough fluid = FVD.
If the urine is much heavier than water then there is more waste product and less fluid.
If tge urine is closer to the mass of water then there is more fluid and less waste.
Not sure if that was what you wanted to know :)
