UMDNJ FNP PROGRAM and PRECEPTORS

Hey,

I was just accepted to UMDNJ's FNP program for the Spring... I will only be going part time and clinicals won't be for a while, however I've been having a difficult time getting this one particular question answered....Does UMDNJ provide students with preceptors, or at the very least provide a list of past preceptors? Hopefully someone here that is currently in the program or has graduated may be able to clarify this great mystery... THANKS!

Congrats on getting in. I will be applying after I finish my BSN. I was wondering the same thing. I emailed the admissions office and they said that it is "preferred that you find your own preceptor... If you cannot find a preceptor, UMDNJ does have a list of preceptors you can use." However, you can't do clinicals in the hospital where you work. Hope that helps. I would email them just in case anything has changed. I got that info in April.

Please let me know how it goes when the time comes. I'd really like to get through school without struggling to find preceptors!

Thanks! I e-mailed the faculty advisor for the FNP program and was told "You need to find your own placement." Now I am having second thoughts because I don't want to be in a situation where I cannot advance in my academic studies just because I cannot find a preceptor for my clinical.

Wow, that's really different that what I was told! They are a state university hospital system. I wonder why they can't pull some strings for students. The hassle of finding my own placement isn't something I want to get involved in. While it is one of the more affordable schools, what do we do if we are stuck without a clinical site after we've already paid for the class? Do we have to drop? It's really not fair to the student. Thank you so much for posting this.

No problem. I inquired more in regards to the same concerns you are expressing. If/when I get a response I'll keep you posted.

Thank you so much. FNP all the way!

I was hoping to come across ANYONE on this board that has gone to UMDNJ... Unfortunately no dice.
