UCF 2017 Accelerated Nursing Program

I got in as well! Must decide between UF jax and UCF. Those in the same situation - how are you making the decision?

UF is the best nursing school in Florida, if you were lucky enough to get in there you should definitely go!

How do you know it's the best though? I have been trying to do my research and UCF has better NCLEX passing rates for the accelerated program than does UF. UNF also has better passing rates for the NCLEX than does UF. I know UF has a great "name" and I don't doubt that they have a great program but I can't figure out what literally makes them the best. Any help on that would be appreciated.

Jannah, I think you might have a difficult time getting answers that are unbiased. It might literally be impossible, even. I didn't even APPLY to UF, but I would be careful of how much information you get from this board as students might want your spot who didn't get in to UF but want a spot at UCF.

In my very unofficial research, UF seems to be a very excellent program, but it academically seems to be on par with UCF's accelerated program. It might just be the fact that people romanticize the UF name (nothing wrong with that, it is what it is, and will continue to be for many universities), went there for another degree and had a great experience, etc etc. I would pop over to some old boards and try and contact students from UF and ask them personally what their experience was in the program. See what people have to say a few years out or at least a few semesters in.

If it was me personally, I would probably choose the program that was more in line with my lifestyle. If you plan to stay in the area after you graduate, where would you rather live? I rather enjoy the Orlando area, which was why I bothered applying to UCF in the first place. Gainesville didn't appeal to me at all. I have also HEARD (again, only heard as I did not actually apply to UF) that UF's accelerated program is not the same quality as their regular program. Again, completely a rumor I heard, but definitely something worth asking.

I am not from FL, and I have heard from many other people that nobody cares as much about the UF name outside of FL. If you don't plan on staying here, I'm not sure it will matter at all (or how much it does even if you do).

I do not believe UCF would churn out such high NCLEX pass rates if their program was really that inferior. Every program will have its pros and cons. I just don't think you're going to get a good list in a thread like this one.

Thanks for that statistic, just keeping my fingers crossed at this point. Don't understand why they won't tell me my place in the waitlist though. Congrats to all of you who did get accepted though

thank you so much for your input! I really appreciate it. My brother goes to UF so obviously I have that pressure to go there. But other than that nothing draws me except the name. I will continue to ask around to see what I hear!
