The date you submitted your supplemental has no effect on your overall application nor your wait list status. There were over 850 applicants, so even if you have the same “numerical” scores as someone else (1,2 etc) doesn’t mean you’re in the same position.

for example, one person has an 96% and another has an 89%. Both 1’s in grades, but the first person is ranked higher. Same with supplemental and CASPER.

also they weigh sections differently!

Hi, I'm sorry about that, it's so disappointing after all that hard work. Will you be applying again? Maybe we will get in together for 2022! 

I applied with school leadership experience and unit clerk work at VGH. But, I think these experiences are quite common. I really think it all comes down to how you express/write it. I watched a lot of Youtube videos on writing -- I think that's how I got that 1 for supplementals.

I understand but that doesn't explain how someone got on the waitlist with 4-casper 1-supplemental 3-grades, while I didn't get on the waitlist with 2-casper 1-supplemental 3-grades. 

At the end of the day though, it doesn't matter because I think that person was number 80 on the waitlist.

Actually to retract that, maybe that person scored much higher than me in supplementals and grades. So yes, you are right, when the application is submitted doesn't matter.

Thanks for the tips!! I am still waiting on a response from BCIT’s nursing program. If I do not get accepted there, I will take a few more courses at UBC this year to boost my GPA and gain some healthcare related work/volunteer experience as well. I will then apply for the September 2022 intake when it opens. I have a feeling I might not get into BCIT so I am crossing my fingers for UBC next year for both of us!

I also got the same feeling about BCIT ? Hope it works out for us.

If you haven't already, check out VCH's covid response hiring (screeners, program assistants, clerks, etc.). They pay pretty well and casual work is perfect for students. 

Does UBC nursing care at all about your grades from this semester? I did decent on my courses (but could've done better) and I'm hoping that doesn't affect anything if I am offered a seat in the program.

I am that person ? I totally get your frustration. The admission process is really confusing. I don’t how they decided this, but I am basically rejected too. There is no way they’re going to pick up 80 people from the waitlist.

But how great would it be if 80 people do get off the waitlist?! What if they opened more seats? My wishful thinking ?. I'm obsessing over every little detail and have to stop overthinking. Hopefully for next time, I'll get all 1s.

I can tell you’re very dedicated and you’ll be a great nurse! You’ll have an extra year of life experience under your belt when you become a nurse!

I'm still waiting on either response, but pretty patient considering it's hard to email 850 people in one day.

Honestly, you've made it far to be on the waitlist. I'd like to think about the waitlist as you made it halfway, 50%. Not getting into the program right away sucks, but it also means that you get the opportunity to show them how great you are and what you've done to change their opinion when you reapply. Best of luck to you! 

I think we need more hospitals for schools to offer more seats. 

Congrats to those that got in. Was accepted as well. Made an account to post advice from anyone that didn't make it but wants to in the future.

I have to assume: you've thought long and hard about your life and that you actually really want to be a nurse, and understand what the job involves.

-Okay so you put a ton of thought into it, and you're committed to this career. But you didn't get accepted to a school

-How to get accepted next time? Simple but not easy, become the ideal applicant.

-You KNOW what the ideal applicant would look like. Someone that if they posted their stats here you'd say WOW you're getting in! Luckily the way UBC assesses their applicants it's always possible to become much closer to ideal within a mere year.

-Grades are simple. Crush them. Take an entire year of courses in things you can demolish for an awesome GPA. Remember it's a game, and the goal is to get the best grade possible. Play (fairly) to win, but don't forget it's only that silly number that matters.

-Supplemental stuff? Hard, but you know what looks great...Be a leader, start a business, volunteer for CHALLENGING things etc, literally be the change you wanna see in the world (it's all so cliche, but that kind of stuff stands out) What would you rather read: I volunteered at the gift shop in the hospital OR I started company xyz to address problem xyz in the healthcare field and had zyx impact? (you could spend the same amount of time at both these things and guess which one jumps out, and likely changes your life in a bigger way...but one is harder...)

-Casper: a lot of people *** on this test, but as someone who is fairly confident I did well on it...this test is great. (though I have no idea how good the grading is) What its trying to get at is fundamentally important to this field...if you can't do well on a test like this, I think it fairly should be held against you. How to improve? Learn how to be a leader, learn how to work on a team. Put yourself into difficult situations. Through the life experience of learning how to deal with real problems...quality answers to the CASPER come naturally.

I hope that made some sense and was somewhat helpful. I know I always appreciated this sort of thing.
