TWU Fall 2012 Weekend Program & Traditional

Hello all!

I am currently in the process of applying to TWU's weekend program for Fall 2012 and I just wanted to start a new thread for any prospective TWU nursing students as well as current students!

For those of you who don't know, TWU has a weekend program for students with a previous bachelor degree in another field. From what I understand, if you are not selected for the weekend program, they will automatically consider you for the traditional program as well.

The minimum GPA requirement is 3.0 with the TEAS V entrance exam also required in order to apply..and of course you also have to complete the required pre-requisite courses.

Here is a link to the program for more information: http://www.twu.edu/nursing/weekend-program.asp

If anyone else has any more detailed information regarding this program, your input is certainly welcome. I hope this thread is helpful for anyone considering nursing school at TWU. :)

Cdibley: I took patho last semester here at the Denton campus and it was okay. Just requires LOTS of reading. Wish I could have had the experience taking it at the Dallas campus! I just visited it, but ready to be a student there :D

I asked one of the advisors. The only shots for now are the TB (if the student is transferring to TWU) and meningitis. As I understood, we'd receive some "packet" and orientation with all that info.

I would like to know how much do books cost usually, and other expenses like malpractice insurance, etc etc.

I check my email daily too , hee hee hee...

Livelaughlearnlove I don't think we have to have our shots done before being notified. But it would be wise to start if you need any that require 2 shots like Hep A, which is 2 shots over 6 months because they probably have to be done by the time clinicals or the semester starts. I got all my immunizations at the Dallas Health Department because it is so cheap and right by the Dallas campus, it's only $10 bucks a shot! I only know about the Hep A cause I have my second dose in April. Thanks for the info about patho!

Ok good; I can worry about that in the summer.

One of my friends in the program said she spent around $1,000 total and I am not sure about the insurance...

Did anyone else apply to other nursing programs or just TWU?

hey cdibley, do you know what shots do we need? Is there a list or something for students?

Just TWU here, LiveLaughLoveLearn. I'll get anocher Bachelors this year if I don't get in and I'll reapply to NS for Spring 13.

Thanks Cdibley for the helpful info! I don't even have a shot record so I will probably go ahead and get all needed!

DFWgal I am not sure what TWU requires, but I am also applying to Collin's program which requires most immnizations be done by the application deadline. They might be the same but I'm not sure. Just an idea Collin requires: Varicella (serologic confirmation okay), Hep A, Hep B, MMR and Dtap. I really want to go to TWU, but Collin is my backup cause I am basically guaranteed acceptance to that program.

Thanks for the info!

Ugh can't stop thinking about my TEAS score getting in the way of my acceptance!

I am applying to UTMB, UTHSC, and the TWU Houston campus. I googled immunization requirements for all of the schools that I applied to and they were all about the same. The only thing that it stated was that the HEP B series takes 6 months to complete and you had to at least have the 2nd dose before you could participate in clinicals. For those who have not gotten the Dtap yet it hurts something fierce! :)

Just for the record I think I check my email twice a day! lol

Ktdidit: Thanks for that info! Looks like I need to look into getting the HEP B soon. I also applied to UTHSC SA, UTA, & UTMB, but not a big fan of Galveston. Did u already take Chemistry II for UTHSC?
