two weeks notice

I have a question. If I give my two weeks notice on Friday May 25th, my last day should theoretically be June 8th. However, I'll be on vacation from June 1 to 10. Ideally I'd like to come back from vacation and start at my new job on June 11th. But I don't want to burn the bridge at my old/current job so I'm willing to stay until the 15th just to keep myself "rehireable".

Do you think my vacation should be included in my two weeks notice or should I actually work an additional two weeks before my last day?

Once place I left, I wanted to go on vacation and just not come back to work.

Then I found out that vacation time did not count when it came to giving notice. The notice actually had to be worked, so in order to leave when I wanted to I had to cancel the vacation and work that time instead.

Check with HR and see what the policy is.

Thanks for the feedback. It's not possible to reschedule my vacation, as it's only 8 days away...

And my vacation is being taken unpaid, which is one of the reasons why I'm looking to leave this facility, so I don't feel guilty in the least for taking this time. I just don't want it to bite me in the bum 5 years down the road :)

Theoretically, you would not have been there anyway during the last week. The facility would still have 2 weeks to find your replacement(yeah right).

However, if you only have to go back for one more week, to stop all the worry, why not?

Besides... that last day of work.. and knowing you never have to go back..

Thanks for the input everyone! I ended up getting an offer today, and they told me the general orientation would be June 25th. So that means I'll be able to give my notice prior to my vacation and still stay for two weeks after I return from vacation (so approx 3-4 weeks total). I'm glad that I will be able to give them adequate notice and still keep my new employer happy!
