turned down

Has anyone ever been turned down by corrections.I applied 5 months ago and just found out that most likley i wont get the job. They wont tell me much about who gave a bad reference, other than it was an employer.

I was always under the impression that former employers were not able to comment on an employees job performance but only that "yes" or "no" they worked here. Wasn't there some lawsuits about that at one point? Maybe someone with a better legal background will chip in? Or ask in the legal forums?

I don't have much of a legal background so, take this with a grain of salt. But, from what I understand, it's not neccessarily that they can't give you a bad reference, it's just that a lot of employers choose not to due to legal issues. I also think a lot of it depends on which state you're in because, apparently, state laws can vary on this issue.

You can answer whether or not they're eligible to be rehired. Saying that they're not says a lot.

Thank you guys for responding. I guess I need to start looking for another job.The thing that bothers me is it was a job 11 years ago.In the last 10 years my employers have nothing but good things to say. I just need to get back up and try again.;)

Strange ... the last job I applied for they only wanted 10 years of work history. Maybe they'll only ask for that next time.

sorry to hear you were turned down. I'm currently going through the process, and I was just curious what the time frame was. Sounds like it took them five months to just get through your background check. Did you ever have your psych evaluation?

No, I did not get to do the psych eval that was the next step. I was told that it usually takes about three months at the most, but it took me five and thats only because I called her. (background investigator)

Sorry about the job Jassyj. If you thought that some employers would give you a bad review, can you exclude them from your applications? Just wondering...

Also, they give psych evals? If they did this as the facility I work at, it would have indeed eliminated the past three nurses we had to go through hell to get rid of. Wow!

Psych evals to get into correction nursing would be a wonderful thing....!!!!

if you got a bad reference, the employer is in violation of the law of disclosure i believe

were you applying for a FED BOP job? i assume you did because of the psych eval required

Psych evals would be nice~ as far as bad references, a former employer can give one, but, as was mentioned earlier, most don't choose to due to lawsuits. It could have been that they personnaly spoke with someone who gave you a poor reference (verbally).

Sorry that you were turned down. Don't give up though.
