Trying not to panic (rant). . . .

I still do not have a Temporary Practice Permit. I have been trying to contact the BON for about a week and a half. I either get the message that no one is available and to try back later or use the website (which tells me nothing) or I sit on hold forever only to be disconnected. :angryfire I'm suppossed to start my job next Monday, June 20. I can't do that without a Temporary Practice Permit. If they are processing it still, fine. My big concern is that the checks I sent have not been cashed yet. I mailed them on May 31. It is now June 13. It only takes the mail two days max from Pittsburgh to Harrisburg. I have no other way of knowing if the paperwork reached it's destination or not. They had to be mailed to a post office box, so I could not use certified mail.

Oh, I also tried to email them and explain the situation. Sent it return receipt. They read it and still did not respond even to acknowledge that the forms were or were not received, being processed, or that they had to research it. Nothing!:banghead:

So thanks for "listening". I'm off to try the nurse recruiter again.

Do you actually have to have the permit in your hand to start this job? Most employers are usually pretty understanding; as long as you have proof that you passed NCLEX (which you should be able to do online) you should be OK.

Don't hold your breath when it comes to PA and processing anything. Things get done very slowly (although they're usually quite adept at taking your money). :chuckle

Awwww, Fab4Fan, thanks! You're right about taking $$$$. That's why I was so frantic. The checks aren't showing up on my bank statement yet. No dice on the NCLEX, unfortunately. I signed on as a GN and don't take my test until later this summer after my review course.

Update: My of a dh kept calling from work and got right through to them. (Nevermind that I've been trying for weeks. ) They gave him my Temproary Practice Permit number since it's going to be public knowledge anyway. :Melody: Huge sigh of relief!

Thanks!

That's good news. Be glad you don't have to take state boards (as they were called back in the Dark Ages) like I did; two long days followed by two and a half longer months of waiting by the mailbox.

I got so fed up that one day I left for work early and didn't check the mail. Of course, that was the day my results came. (Friday the 13th, no less...not that I'm superstitious. :) )

I think I would be a wreck. I probably would have done the same thing and gotten disgusted. I stopped being superstitious about Friday the 13th and good things usually seem to happen then. Who knows? Thanks again!

Glad to hear it worked out, NurseyBaby ... I just graduated yesterday so now the wait is on for me. The good news is that they've cashed my check, so I know that it's physically there somewhere.

We've been told that most things will show up promptly on the LicensePA website, but there are exceptions, which can lead people to panic. One of last year's graduates from my school took NCLEX on the same day as several other grads -- an RN license was visible on the website for those people about 4 days later, but for this one ... it didn't show up for another week. She was beyond convinced that she had failed.

Fab4Fan ... from what I've been told, in PA you have to physically produce that piece of paper (the temp permit) to work as a GN, just as RNs have to physically produce the display portion of their license. Someday, we just might join the computer age ...

Best of luck to you NurseyBaby ... I start my job next month. :)

is anyone around today??

:chuckle just new here and seeing how it all works

:rotfl: helllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllo out there creuwl world....... :coollook:

Thanks, Michelle! Where are you headed? I'm on a Neuro floor at AGH. I want to get the first day over with so I can get an idea of what to expect. I shadowed, but now it's my patients and my neck. Into the real world from the world on paper.

Congratulations again! :balloons: :Melody:
