You just don't know when/if anything else will come up. The market is soo tight right now....

If the part time job is non-nursing it is probably not going to advance your nursing career which is what you got your degree in. I would go for the psych job. I think outpatient psych would be really interesting and help your resume in the future. Lots of people would jump at the chance to have that job, so if you dont take it let us know so we can apply.. I'm just kidding of course. Good luck with your decision.

I currently drive 45 mins to work every day - at a mental health facility no less (but I don't have my own office and I am a therapist right now, not a nurse). I would take it. I work those same hours too.

Personally, my commute is straight distance, I don't know if your 45 mins is due to traffic. But again, I would take it, the nurses where I work get so much more than the therapists and they get paid way better too lol.

If the full time job is offered you should definitely take it. As far as the part time job, why not talk to your employer to see if you can alter your hours. Maybe more hours on saturday, or add a few on sunday. Also see if its possible to work from 6p-1030 during the week.

I don't get it. Do you want to be a nurse or not? Seems to me when you answer this question honestly, the rest will fall into place.

The longer you stay away from nursing the more unemployable you will be in the future. Nursing isn't something you can just pick up where you left off anytime you'd like; you'd have to retrain, recert, etc.

An outpatient unit is a dream job for many and a 45 min commute is nothing and should not be a deterrent - unless you're looking for excuses not to take the job.

So ask yourself this question and then you will have your answer.

Congratulations ! ! ! If you have an opportunity to start your nursing career whether it is in the area you prefer or not it may be the wise thing to do. Many grads are still unemployed with new grads joining the job seeking list everyday. Take advantage of the offer. A great start for the New Year !

I think a lot depends on where you are in life. If you have an associate degree and have considered contin your education then keep the part-time and go back to school now. The shortage of jobs will eventually subside and opportunities will present themselves again at another point in your life. Keep the job that makes you happy and go back to school so when you are done you will be more marketable and opportun that are much more lucrative will more than likely be available to you. If however you really cannot afford to delay it and you are struggling then take the job and see if there is any way that you can keep your foot in the door at your part-time gig. Life's too short, sometimes the money isn't the answer. If you can wait then do so. If keeping your part-time job will negatively affect your life because it doesn't pay well then you already know what you need to do. The distance you would have to drive is something you were probab already aware of when you applied for the job so it shouldn't be a deciding factor.

Its not that I dont want to be a nurse, its just that my confidence has really been non-exsistant since being let go from my previous job (hence why I was applying everywhere). This facility I just get this over all heaviness just being in the parking lot I dont know if its the building its self or if its me not being confident. I like nursing but I also like my PT job too. It just seems since going to school and becoming a nurse Ive forgotten how to have fun, be silly and just enjoy life over all instead Im always worried about my license and how the smallest lil thing can wipe it out forever.

When I applied for this job I thought it was inpatient and the driving distance was only about 30min but then they re-did the roads and the 'improvements' added 15min.

I wont know until mon/tuesday if the job is mine or not. I would ask for different hours but the PT job is only open tue-sat 330p-1030p.

But I guess we shall see what the future holds
