I am taking TNCC next month. I took it four years ago so it is a recert class I am doing. Not thrilled about taking it. Because I don't work the traumas when they come in. plus trauma isn't for me. I enjoy my ER pts Well just wondering what has changed in the last four years?? Anyone take it recently and can give me some advice ? I remember taking it the first time and had major anxiety during those two days. Thanks guys!! [emoji119][emoji4][emoji173]ï¸

Did they not give you a TNCC book? They should. I'm due to take mine again but haven't yet. I didn't think TNCC was a re-cert?? It was my understanding you have to do both days just like if you had never taken it before.
I just said recert. But it is a full class like the first time I took it. No I have not received the book yet...still waiting on it. I just want to be ahead. My hospital will probably give it to me a a day or two before class starts [emoji53]
That's not right. They should give it to you at least a month before the class. Dang, I was hoping for a true re-cert lol.

be careful not to underestimate this course. some nurses where I work did not study relying on years of experience and did not pass the first time. focus on megacode scenario located in back of book and STUDY before the class with the materials they should send at least 2 weeks ahead of time !

Just make sure you have your A-E assessment down and you'll pass the practical portion. I found some of the questions on the written test vague to say the least, but our instructors gave us a study guide at the end of day one and I studied that all night and passed the 2nd day. You need the book for sure, and I would start reading 1 week before to get a good idea of the changes.

Megacodes were part of the old ACLS, they don't do them in TNCC or in ACLS anymore. TNCC has several stations to get passed on; didn't do the helmet removal this time (except in practice, not testing); added in check for uncontrolled bleeding to go at same time as airway. Remember from the updated BLS that it is CSpine and Compressions before A&B these days. The A through E, then G&H, and now LMNO has been added. things like Last Meal, Medications, etc.

To update this thread for those looking for information. They do offer now a one day recertification class though there's not many out there at this point. It's a self study kinda deal.
They've now put five sections of content online and you're expected to review all that on your own. It's briefly touched on in class at the end as a review and I think that's where they get across what's important for testing purposes.
As far as testing they do a kind of "mega code" as someone mentioned. But it's just basically a head to toe and assessment that usually involves airway & uncontrolled bleeding since that is what TNCC stresses now. Everything is "I am checking for external signs of hemorrhaging"
This is my third recertification taking the two day course, and I found this written test a little more challenging as some of the questions do try to mess you up! More so there seems to be 2 answers that could be right but if you don't have test anxiety it isn't bad, but I was still mad at the ones I missed because I KNEW the information.
Just like the ENPC, there is tons of new information and honestly I think there should be 2 full days with lecture content, followed by a separate day of testing. By the end of the second day you receive so much new information (and are so tired especially if you're a night shifter like me) that it's hard to then go right into the testing. At least it can be challenging for me!
So pretty much read the book from front to back well in advance before the class. And so you don't overload yourself with information, then just take notes in class paying special attention to what they tell you to focus on and that's what's on the written.

I didn't find the class to be much different. There were a few changes to the details of the ABC survey but it's essentially the same class as before.
If you were freaking before, you'll be at risk for freaking again; if you were cool with it before, you'll be cool with it again.
