Tips for phone interview

Hey everyone! I just wanted to see if anyone could give me any advice on doing a phone interview. I am currently in Virginia but I have a phone interview with the director of a Labor and Delivery unit in Savannah, Georgia next Tuesday. I have never done a phone interview before and I am a little nervous. Any tips would be much appreciated!

I do phone interviews every few months as a travel nurse.

Here are a few ideas you may find useful: Project a positive image in your voice - some studies say that it actually helps to smile while on the phone (sounds silly, but can't hurt!). Have a copy of your resume available by the phone so you don't have to fumble to remember dates and details. Also, have a list of questions you want to ask about the position and facility. This shows your interest and remember that you are interviewing them as well. Be sure to thank the interviewer for their call and let them know if you would like to be considered for the position.

It feels a little awkward at first but really is not that different than a face -to-face interview. I can actually say that I can interview in my sleep as I have done so more than once when called a few hours after arriving home from night shift - apparently pretty well as I got the positions!

PP has great advice. Try to take a few minutes before your interview to calm yourself, make sure you're all set with everything you need, have a glass of water nearby in case your throat gets dry, keep your resume and cover letter handy, along with the company's mission and your list of questions.

Good luck!
