Tips on Constructive Criticism

Something that I have quickly learned from AllNurses' discussions and various real life interactions is that nurses are very honest. I would like to become better at receiving feedback and information that is presented to me very bluntly. How can learn how to control my emotions when reviving constructive criticism?

This makes so much sense. I'm going to start using this technique right away. Thank you, TriciaJ, RN'.

Tuck your tail between your legs and don't respond until you've had time to reflect.

Thats what I do. ;-)

It's important to stop and listen as a nurse. But is also important to know when the ones telling you something actually know what they are talking about. What I've notice in nursing is that there is a lot of know it all people. There is also bulling and all kinds of other things. Nursing and nurses can be a tough bunch. My advice is. Know the law - get it from who is above you - lay the law, don't let other people tell you what to do when they don't even know what they are doing. A lot of criticism in nursing is pure pettiness. Some might be real.
