thinking about CRNA school

Llisten, anesthesia school is a tremendous challenge, however, if u really want it u will focus as necessary to get thru the struggle it poses. Succeeding in a bsn program is not a clear indiction of whether or not u will succeed. The complete understanding of ur ICU stint will. We all question ourselves if we are "smart" enough to do this but after constant motivation and research, that hesitance disappears. Really, really want it and u will indeed suceed.

I am really interested in the field of nurse anesthesia. However, I am worried about how hard the schooling is and how hard the job is. If one can get through the BSN program with pretty good grades do you think they can also get through nurse anesthesia school?

Yes, there is medical coverage for a CRNA, can run from $6000 to $10000 per year.

Some hospitals or private anesthesia groups willl cover the cost of your malpractice insurance. $6,000-$10,000 isnt bad when your making $130,000-$170,000 a year..

CRNA is school is not "hard". It is all encompassing. Your life revolves around it. It is not Metaphysics or Astrophysics.

You must be able to keep a heck of a lot of information in your noggin, and when it's time, have it flow out to your hands. In turn, your hands are skilled enough to allow them to carry out the mission your brain just assigned. The ability to retain, synthesize, and utilize information is paramount. A scientific mind is important. School will only give you applicational physics and chemistry. It will not start at science 101. That can be good or bad. You will talk about Venturi and Henry. But do you remember what their laws state? If you had a difficult time grasping or caring about the concepts, you may opt for some quality time with some refresher material. Although, deep down, these things should be interesting to you.

I can only speak for my BSN program. I received pretty much all A's, and feel it did literally nothing to prepare me for CRNA school. It did however better prepare me to undertake the extraneous MSN work.

Most anesthesia groups include you in their malpractice insurance.

Don't be scared to try. It's probably not as bad as some have made it out to you. I have yet to find one CRNA who regreted their career.

Very true. The next five years are going to pass quickly. Why not spend them building something. The money is fine, but what you will learn to appreciate more is the pride you will take in telling people what you do for a living.

CRNAs do pretty much everything Anesthesiologists (or Anesthesia trained GPs) in Canada do, except for about 1/2 or less the salary.

What type of hours do Nurse Anesthetist work? Are you required to put in a ton of hours? Are there options to work as a part time Nurse Anesthetist?

as soon as i had my first experience in an or rotation in my accelerated bsn program i knew that’s what i wanted to do. when i found out the average starting salary, i was positive that is what i want to do. i graduated my absn program in september and would like to go back for my crna as soon as possible. can someone tell me the best way to go about meeting requirements for admission? i have excellent grades 2 inorganic and 2 organic chemistries and physics i & ii from my bs in biology. (another post said that was important). i am hoping someone can tell me what is considered critical care (is it icu, pacu, pcu, nicu, er?) and how many years are needed as a prerequisite in nj. thank you.
