Published

Colleagues, I need your help. I am now into Master of Science in Nursing Major in Nursing Admin. One of the requirements in one of my subjects is to write a thesis proposal and we are required to submit at least three titles/topics for that matter. Actually it was given 3 wks ago. I am having a hard time to produce a relevant topic for my thesis. I hope you can help me guys. Ur suggestions will be accepted however, do not include topics about stress, competency, workload.. I am looking for Nursing Admin-related topics.. Tnx in advance! I hope for your immediate response. :)

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PCVICU and peds oncology.

Here's a relevant and timely topic: How does a nurse manager maintain discipline in a time of staffing shortages without losing staff members? I've noticed a trend lately that bad behavior is being downplayed or ignored because the manager doesn't want to have to replace a nurse, no matter that that the nurse is incompetent, treats other nurses badly, has an attendance problem etc. They'd rather pretend things are fine so that they can keep the warm body with the pulse...

Tnx.. Good suggestion.. Keep ur ideas coming.. :-):nuke:

How about the trend, and HIPPA requirements, requiring a multi-disciplinary approach to developing / purchasing an EMR (Electronic Medical Record).

Great research starting place would be Jan / Feb 2006 Supplement to The Journal of Medical Practice Management by Greenbranch Publishing.

I myself am fascinated on how the profession of nursing is "hereditary" How many nurses do you work with whose mothers were nurses? Or Aunts? It seems that there are certain families that have lots of nurses and others have none.

I know it is not the most scientific of topics, but wouldnt it be neat to find a small graduating class of nurses say from the 1950s and do a family tree on how many of those nurses inspired other nurses or health care professionals in their family.

No it is not really medical per say, but interesting. And maybe you could put a spin on it for the upcoming nursing shortage.

Specializes in ICU, Telemetry, neuro,research.

current problems are staffing, maintaining morale, maintaining a cohesive unit, minimizing turnover, the feesibility of cross-training nurses, are internships effective, does the preceptor make or break the newbie nurse? that is just to start. how about, does salary serve as a means of lasting motivation, or flex-time, will it be the answer to the working mom, nurse that is a student? i can come up with more, or do you have a particular direction in mind?
