Texas Nursing School

have narrowed my choice down to 4 schools where I plan on getting my BSN. My following choices are:

Baylor, TCU. TWU, and Univeristy of Texas Nursing School in Houston. If I could get some input on any of these schools it would be very helpful. [/quote

If you are considering 3 schools in the DFW area anyway, why not consider UTA????

I am currently a junior majoring in biology. I have decided that I want to go into the wonderful career of nursing. I will graduate with my degree in May 05 and have looked into second degree programs. I have narrowed my choice down to 4 schools where I plan on getting my BSN. My following choices are:

As a Baylor alum I sincerely say it's a wonderful choice, but there might be some better choices for nursing for you. I understand you will have a Bachelor's degree, but keep in mind that you might have to take some courses at BU in Waco before you go to Dallas to take the clinical section of coursework. Remember BU is a Baptist university, so you will probably have to take 6 sem hrs of religion before it's all said and done. Bottom line, I would definitely check on how your classes will transfer from your current school to BU. I know that they will not accept any 3000+ level courses from anywhere. The only other take I have from Baylor is that they are expensive. The other schools might be costly as well (I don't know) so it is just up to who would offer you the best financial assistance package. If you need answers, just contact the BU pre-nursing office in Waco 254-710-1821. Carole Hanks is the Dean and would be the person probably most able to answer your questions and concerns. I don't know your circumstances, but UT Austin has a bridge program for people who have non-nursing degrees. You get thru nursing school much faster. All the schools you mentioned are great. Check out their NCLEX pass rate on http://www.bne.state.tx.us (click on "table of contents" then scroll down). Good luck!!

Consider the nursing programs that you are looking at. One of the things that you might want to look at are the pass rates on the state boards. You do not want to go into a program that is a low pass rate. I am biased because I graduated from Baylor and had a wonderful experience, you only need one 3hr religion class, and they will let you take it during the summer after you start the program, so if you don't have a religion class don't let that stop you from applying. I did not go to Baylor's main campus in Waco before nursing school, I did all my pre-reqs at community college and had no problem with them transferring. All the schools you listed are all good schools, so you really can't go wrong no matter what you choose. :)

Only 1-3 hr religion course...you lucky dog!!! Now I did not get my BSN from Sic 'em Bears U, just a bachelors, but I'm guessing there were non nursing upper level electives and/or science classes you had to take. If this is the case, the OP might want to consider this because they certainly won't allow the upper level classes they took while earning their bachelor to transfer, which means they might have to retake a class here and there. On the other hand, because Baylor is a private university, they are able to be a little more flexible when allowing some transfer credit classes substitute for others.

I'm looking at TCU myself and UTA. I haven't heard glowing things about TWU. TCU is waaaay expensive, but it will get me out of school 1-2 semesters faster than UTA. Plus, as a Red Raider....I have a natural aversion to all things ut. :)

Thanks for replying to my thread everyone. I will be graduating from a Catholic school so we are required to take 2 semesters worth of theology. The only program I have heard about UTA is the accelerated program that automatically gives you a RN and MSN and I don't want my MSN at this current time. But if you know of another program UTA offers please let me know

I have noticed for some time now that no one has good things to say about TWU. I thought they were a good nursing school but if anyone has some input I would like to know.

I am also curious about the negative hype that seems to be common with TWU. I am thinking about going to their school. Their NCLEX scores are better than UTHSC-Houston.
