Hello Everyone,
I am new at allnurses.com and so far I love it.
I have a very important question.
This March 12, 2012 I am going to be taking my TEAS test, I am so nervous.
I would like to ask all those who already took the TEAS test to give me some strategy skills while taking my test. I also wanted to know if I do not finish a section in the given time, Is it better to leave them blank or to guess?
Thank you So MUCH!
If you are a NURSE, I admire you! (:

I would get the study booklet from ATI as well as the practice test online. I would make an educated guess rather than leave something blank. There is no penalty for a wrong answer, and there is a 100% chance you get it wrong leaving it blank, 25% chance you get it right by guessing.
Good luck :)

I agree with lrobinson5...get the ATI study materials. I exclusively used those and did well on the TEAS. The ATI book tells you how much time you have for each section. You have loads of time. If you can't finish something, definitely fill in an answer instead of leaving it blank. You will be given pencil and paper during the test, so maybe if you don't know the answer, choose B or C or something, note the number, and come back to it if you have time. You have lots of time to study for the TEAS. I took about 6 weeks studying...I went through every single part of that ATI book. I took a practice test (the online one), and then I went through the Math section...paying attention to adding/subtracting/mulitplying/dividing fractions...as that was a HUGE weakness of mine. Then I took another practice. Then I went through the Science section. Then I took another practice. Science was my worse section...the questions are so random. Study up on RNA/DNA, cell division, and balancing chemical reaction equations...or whatever else it tells you are bad at. But other than that...there is not that much you can do for the Science section. Good luck!
Thank you all so much for answering my questions!
I bought the study manual from ati and I am trying to study an hour a day!
I had no idea they were practice test!I really want to do them!
What else did you guys have in your test?
Thanks :)

I also recommend studying from the ATI manuals and the online practice tests. I just pulled out my manuals for my neice and found some notes from when I took it on things to know. Science was my biggest weakness in my notes I covered plate boundaries: divergent, convergent, transform. The 3 types of rocks igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic. In the math go over the conversion from fahrenheit to celsius and vice versa. Hope this helps and Good Luck!
hwagoner7....the new version of the test actually has no geology on it at all
now the "physical science" portion is basically chemistry and a little bit of physics (i've never taken physics...so don't think you need to take it), and properties of water (which we covered in chemistry). You probably have info from version 3 or 4, but the 5 no longer has those types of questions. Basically, you sould finish most of your science prereqs (anatomy & physiology, biology, and chemistry) to be able to master the TEAS science questions. Once you take a practice test in the book (or on the ATI website) you will know what you are weak on. Then you need to go over those sections. As you take each subsequent test, the areas you need to work on should get less. Believe me, there were topics I never managed to master. But that's about the best you can do to prepare! If science continues to be your worse section, work on making the best scores you can on the rest of the sections...don't skimp on those!
Everyone tells me "their science section is always the worst one"
and in my perspective its the one that counts the most.
I need to get an 85 or above to get into the school of nursing,
that is why I am also really worried!I dont have a 4.0 GPA either
but I am going to try my best!
Thank You

I have been using the McGraw Hill study guide. Previously a lot of people said that is was very helpful. Now, as I read this site more people are saying it is not helpful. I am confused. I didn't purchase the ATI book because the TEAS V version just came out and I couldn't buy it in time. I have been watching YouTube videos, taking the McGraw practice tests, going over Math in Basic Math for Nurses, and focusing. I am super nervous for my test. I take it on Feb 6. I have to score at least an 85% to be competitive in Southern CA. You'll do great you have a lot of time. Just choose a certain amount of time to study each day. Make sure to test yourself and go over your weaknesses a lot. The feedback for what's on the science section is so mixed so just be sure to go over as much as you can.
RonnieDita,
I wish you the BEST!(:
Good Luck!!
When you take it please tell me how was it :
Hello I never saw your reply before. I got a 70% which I was very unhappy about. My test was hard all Chemistry and Physics.
