team morale

I am part of a new unit in the hospital. Staff came to this unit because they were unhappy with their previous units. We have a great staff and all of us are really happy here. I am looking for ideas for great team morale building. We have one now that we posted everyone's baby picture and making a guessing game out of it. Everyone has enjoyed that. Can anyone give me any other suggestions for activities or bulletion board ideas.

We did a team building exercise where everyone had to write down a bit of trivia about themselves that everyone might not know about and make a guessing game out of who is what. We wrote down hobbies or places we've traveled to or languages we speak or someone wrote down that they have a pilots license and someone else wrote down that they had been on a game show. We submitted our answer sheets to the team leader and the person that got the most right won some little token tchotchke.

Children, pets and recipes are always fun topics.

Any other ideas other than bulletin boards. Like activities: we did like chinese auction and secret friends but wanted to do more ideas

My units celebrates birthdays, gets together outside of work, have pot luck days at work, order in,secret santa,we take up collections for weddings and births(we have had showers too) and on day shift after report we read everyones horoscope from the daily paper.Take time to laugh.

What I find boosts our team morale is being a real "team".We don't nit pick, back stab or gossip. We don't report each other, we cover without complaint if someone needs a day off, we answer each others bells, we don't slag each other when talking to people from other units and if anyone from another unit criticizes one of our team we set them straight in a hurry.

1 Major Thing.

ALWAYS Thank your Nurse's for a Job Well Done before Leaving Your Shift.. Even if your Shift Sucked. Thank Them Anyways. It's Amazing how such a little word can change someone's outlook..

Many will find this childish or immature, but I have been know to start a silly string or NS syringe war in the middle of the night if the patients are asleep and we are slow. Point is, what ever is culturally acceptable in your unit, think of some spur of the moment things.

One quiet afternoon on day shift we started a soccer game with the giant exercise ball from the physio room.

We also do themed pot lucks... mexican... italian... breakfast food...
