I'm new to the forums here and haven't posted. I'm a 21 year old nursing school student and I had a question tattoos.
Do hospital administrations look down on hiring or employing nurses who have or get tattoos? I myself don't see it as an issue, but I'm only a nursing student and don't know first hand if they have problems with them.
I was curious if anyone has been in or around a situation like this?
Thanks much for your time :)

It can depend on your facility but I have 4 tattoos and know many nurses who have them as well. Mine are pretty much hideable though-I think as long as you don't look too scary(tattoos all over your neck LOL) you should be fine.

I only have 1, and it's on my foot, so no one can see it under my crocs and the knee socks I invariably end up wearing (the kiddies love 'em and think I'm a pirate!). But when I got it, my NM told me she thought it was cute. I know 2 out of 3 of our dayshift HNs have tattoos, but again, none visible.
Where are your tattoos?

Alot probably depends what they are and where.
This question has been asked lots, so If you do a search, you can get some more feedback that way...:)

I think that tat's are fine. I have 4 as well and I also work with several nurses that have them. Everyone is very professional about it and noone goes showing them off to their patients.

[color=deepskyblue]i have five tattoos, but none are visible. i think it would depend on where they were and what they were of. i don't think they'd take too well to a big skull and snake on your neck or anything.

Keep them hidden. Its unprofessional if they show in my opinion. By the way, I have two.

I just got a tat Saturday. It's a butterfly that I designed myself:) Anyways, it's on my back and no one can see it. I personally wouldn't get a tat that was visible.

I was student nurse on a Neuro floor when I noticed that the nurse that was also assigned to my patient had a chinese character on the inside of her wrist, I asked her what it stood for? She blurts out "Mercy Rocks!" as she works for mercy health care. What we both did not know was the NM was standing right behind me and let herself be known by busting up laughing. We all had a good chuckle over that one, talk about perfect timing!
LOL!
