Taking boards again...after taking them in 1977

Published

I really could use some prayer and support. I took the "old" boards in 1977 and passed and went on the work for nine years. I then had my license suspended(drugs). I subsequently went on to attend university and received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and worked for about 12 years in the automotive field and got laid off off. After a year of hurdles with the board my license was reinstated with the stipulation that I take the NCLEX. I would like to think I hadn't forgotten that much but I have enrolled in the Kaplan and am reviewing the course content and taking the exams. I am so nervous. I am scheduling to take the boards on April 8th.

My plans for studying keep changing, using Saunders, Kaplan or the NCSBN. Although Saunders is good and has the questions and content. I need to know the content and be able to apply it and understand it as well.

I am so nervous. Any advise would be appreciated.

Wow, sounds like you have been through alot... I am studying currently with saunders and i think its great for content but I understand what you mean by wanting to know how to apply it. First off you def need to know the content in order to be able to apply it and even though you have practiced in the past, the nclex has nothing to do with the real world (as we all know). why dont you use saunders for content review becasue its more in depth then kaplan. use kaplan mostly for stratagies and questions. there are so many ways to study, it's difficult to focus on one technique. try to get organized and stick to a plan. Good Luck!

Welcome back to nursing!

I used the Qbank, but I won't find out if I passed boards (unlikely) for another hour or so. ;)

Just wanted to lend my support and say hi, really. GL With boards.

Only input is to do as many questions as you can, from as many sources as you can find, starting with Saunders. Make certain you read and understand the rationales for both right and wrong answers. Good luck and best wishes for your future.
