I am taking the ACT for the first time on October 22. I'm 42 years old.
I've been dong a practise test every week for the last month and have been getting anywhere from a 28 to a 31. My school requires a minimum score of 20 for the nursing program. I figure, the higher I can get mine, the better.
Today in biology another student who is going into nursing said tht when she took the ACT the math section was mostly calculus. I have never heard of this. Everything I have read in the prep books state that most of the questions are algebra, geometry and coordinate geometry, with a little trig. Math is not my strength, and my final ACT score will most likely be determined by my performance on the math portion.
So, is this student correct? Does the ACT include calculus? If it does, I am in serious trouble.
Has anybody here taken the ACT in the last few years? How hard was the math? Did you use prep books? How did the real test compare to the practise tests?
Thanks so much for any info you can share!

I took the ACT in June and there wasn't any calculus on it. It was mainly algebra and geometry, with a little trigonometry. Hope you got a high score. :)

There is no calculus in the ACT missjen. Your scores are excellent! They are in the 99%!

I took ACT in April and there was no calculus. Just some algerbra. I didn't do any preparations for it and I have been out of school for 10 years (math was not my strong point either) and I tested VERY high, I was quit shocked.
I'm sure you will do fine.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for the positive responses!
I'm starting to think that some of the people competing for a spot in the nursing program will say anything to discourage others from trying.
I'm just going to ignore most of what I hear from now on and do my absolute best and leave it at that.

no matter how smart someone is, normal people (like myself) no matter what will not be "perfect". they may have been trying to get to me, or something...who knows??
Granted so far I have had all A's, and I would like to continue to do that...but if by chance I happen to get 1 A- or a B I don't want to feel like I am waisting my time or think I'm stupid or whatever.
That is another reason I went and talked to my adviser for the nursing program.
and guess what... ALL those girls were WRONG.
Obviously they are gonig by what they haerd somewhere and not gonig themselves to find out what is true.
come to find out there is NO waiting list. Yes the better the GPA you have the beter the chance, but you still ahve to pass the NET to get in.
so don't listen to anyone else.
If you do have questions about something go ask someone who is in charge at the school, perferibly your nursing adviser. I learned ALOT from talking with her and feel soo much better.
good luck you will do great. :)
Let us know how you do.
