I was talking with my manager the other day and she wants for me to try out our Imaging department for a little while (since it is very short-staffs and is actually a new addition to the hospital I'm working at). In any case, I currently work in the ICU and am used to such a fast-paced, stressful environment so this will definetly be a big change.
Tomorrow and Friday, I'll be attending a 2 hour course (total of 4 hours) on the different machines and drugs (if any) used in that department. From what I heard, I'll pretty much just be doing the initial records for the patient, taking them into their room, taking their BP and what not. Then from there, it's pretty much in the hands of the X-Ray tech or whoever is running the show there.
Would anyone happen to have any experience working on a floor like this? Any suggestions, or stories you'd like to share? Thanks in advanced!

I don't think our imaging dept even has a nurse. I will have to ask. It does sound less stressful. Is that something you want, or is it gonna bum you out after the high pace of the ICU?

That's what I was thinking. I know I wouldn't be happy going from ICU to an X-ray department.
Now, if it is interventional radiology, that would be a different story. I would enjoy that.

There is no way I'm staying this department even if I do like it! I've worked in the ICU almost my entire time as a nurse and don't plan on leaving it unless it's for a good reason! This switch is simply to gain a little new experience and make my manager happy (since it's short staffed) at the time.
From what I've heard I'll be the only RN on the floor. A lot of it is X-Ray techs, nurse techs and of course doctors. I'm mostly the 'triage' in this department - simply taking the people that have appointments with this department and getting vitals, etc. before they get to their room.
