Support for those of us who were denied!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm new to this site, but I am sooo glad that I have it!!! I applied to two different schools for the fall 08 and both of them denied me  So I thought I would start a forum for those of us that were denied!! I'm still going to try to get in a program for Spring 09 but I just wanted to let those of you who were denied acceptance keep your head up and move forward don't give up :nono: because I haven't!!!!

I know exactly how you feel right now. I applied two times at the school I'm currently at and was denied and in my opinion not even given a fair chance like everyone else both times. BUT the good news is, I thought outside of the box and really decided to try something new and this year I was accepted for Fall 08 at a school about 15 miles down the road. So don't give up if you're getting that dreaded rejection letter!! You can and will make it if you are truly meant to do this! :heartbeat:nurse:

Thanks for your post! I was also denied, but I only had my heart set on going to one school. Now, I have many other schools to apply for the next school term.

My mom asked me, "why? They need so many nurses out there. Why did you not get accepted?" My MAT score was not competitive enough (according to the school), so I decided to take the GRE. I took the MAT, thinking it was less than an hour exam. Also, my strong points are in Science and Math, and not in English/Liberal Arts. The MAT only had 2 analogies with math questions. Also, I am a Magna Cum Laude graduate, so my GPA was high. But, I was denied.

The competition is tough, but I am taking a Prep course to study for my GRE.

To those other people who were denied. Open up all your opportunities. If you want to be a nurse, then throw your denial letter away and start another application for another school.

In the same boat! I got denied to the only school I had my heart set on. I guess they don't like 30yr old non-trad males with EMT, CNA, 4.0 GPA and years of leadership experience!

The jokes on them! I'll take my charm and witty sense somewhere else! This gives me time to work on a minor in Spanish at the local CC.

Watch out. If you have a 4.0 GPA, be cautious appling at the home of the Golden Gophers. They obviously don't like students who work hard.

Thanks for listening.

a little bitter?

i wouldnt take it too personal. in all honesty, a 4.0 seems to be a dime a dozen among what seems to be a student demographic forced to become fierce with competition.

try and be positive and not assume a nursing program singled you out because of a single rejection.

i've had two rejection letters so far.

I got 2 rejection letters for Fall '08. There is a school here that provides a guaranteed spot in their nursing program as long as you take A&P 1 & 2, Med Term, & Math at their school and maintain a B average. I have already taken theses classes at a different school, but I am going to do this anyway so that I will have a guaranteed spot for Fall of '09.

Thank you to all who have given words of encouragement!!! Also want to say Congrats to all who were ACCEPTED!!!!!:nuke:

I was exactly where you guys were last semester. I had a 3.8, had taken almost all of my pre reqs and support courses, and made an 85 on my entrance exam, and I was rejected. A bunch of the people who had applied were all on here chatting about when we would get word. Then all of the sudden the "I got in" responses started coming. I looked, and there was my email, but it said they were sorry, but I was rejected. I was so crushed!!!

As the above poster said the 4.0's are a dime a dozen, and everyone made A's on the entrance exam etc. I worked hard, and reapplied and I got word today that I start Fall of 08.

So don't give up your time will come.

Ive been rejected twice. Then I decided I had ENOUGH. I started making some noise, applied to every school. It was expensive (figure 50 dollars for each application) but you know what at least I know I really did do everything in my power to get in. I havent heard from 4 schools, but I got into my first choice (after they rejected me twice lol)

Keep your head up.

Take this time to take those extra classes in the nursing curriculum, so you dont get overwhelmed when the time comes (you'll also be able to give clinicals your undivided attention)

Looking back, I realized something. I wasnt ready to become a nurse, what if I got in the first time I applied. Then what? Fail out of clinicals the first semester because I had other things on my plate. Theres a plan for all of us, dont give up hope. Keep trying, and think positive! I'll see you guys around, and probably 'borrow' your stethoscope LOL

I've also received 2 denial letters - and one still out (probably another rejection since most people have already received their acceptances).

For those of you who "thought out of the box", what did you do? There's honestly not much more I CAN do... all my pre-req's are done, I have 2 years of volunteering, high GRE, high GPA. It's just so fiercly competetive here in the Bay Area (CA).

I will be re-applying to one of the schools and applying to two other BSN programs locally; I'm not giving up either!!! :)

In my quest I said to myself, APPLY to everyone (whatever deadline you can meet, apply to it) SO i did. And if EVERYONE rejected me I was moving to the Phillipines, or India and continuing education there because I've had it

Luckily for me Im unpacking my bags, but yeah knock on every door imaginable. One is bound to open

To all those that did not get accepted: Do not lose hope, I was denied once, but did not give up and now am going into my 2nd semester of Nursing School. I know and understand how you all are feeling, I was probably worst (I cried all night the day I was denied) But I did not give up and exactly a year later got accepted to NS. So No matter what happens do not give up hope, keep trying!!!!!!!1 You will make it, sooner or later!!
