Stupid Question

For some reason I can't think of the term for this. It has been a few years since I've heard it and can't figure it out.

It is where you are registered in one state and there are states that you can practice in without being certified in each state as long as you are certified in that one.

Specializes in ICU, OR.

My husband thought that too, but it didn't sound right. I tried to google it more and found Nurse Licensure Compact. I wonder if there is a list of which states are included.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

this may explain it more, Compact allows you to reside in one state but work both in person or electronically in another. However if you move from one state to another you have to apply for a license in that state therefore endorse.

Specializes in Pediatrics.

I second reciproccity too.

That is when one state will acknowledge licensing in another state.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Only NCLEX results has reciprocity, it is Endorse for license

I saw that, but it didn't say which ones you could work in. Like for instance, I am in Texas and I was wondering what other states I could work in.

From TX BON regarding Compact States:

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

If the state is on the compact list then you can work there. But like I said if you move there then you have to apply for a license by endorsing your license and meeting that BON's requirements. For example, if you live on the Texas border but there is a hospital just across the border in New Mexico then you can work on your Texas license. If the job is over the telephone and based in North Dakota then you again can work on your Texas license. The change will be if you move from Texas to North Dakota then you will need to endorse your license to ND and meet their requirements.

This is how I understand compact works and hope it makes it clear for you

Thank you sirI and Silverdragon :)

So I am wondering how traveling nurses work? Are they only allowed to *travel* to the places they are licensed then?

^^^ignore that one. I read the link sirI gave :)
