Studying for NCLEX

Hey everyone,

I have taken Feuer's Review course and have been doing questions by section. Everyone has been telling me to do questions and less of straight up reading a book and studying. I don't understand how this is effective. If I only do questions I am learning the information without any structure and I risk missing information if a question doesn't come up for a particular subject area.

I have the Saunders blue book and the NCLEX4000 CD so I'm doing like 200 questions a day and writing down what I have gotten wrong to review later. Is it really safe to just do a lot of questions? Please shed some light. Thanks.

i was wondering the exact same thing! i just started studying yesterday and i am signed up for the kaplan online review course (i won it at school, not sure i would have paid $400 for it or whatever it costs) but everyone i talks to just says to do question after question...etc etc. i'm worried i won't remember some of the information without going over every section either. how long are you planning on studying? have a test date?

Yea I scheduled it for Aug 28th. I'm planning to do all the questions on the NCLEX4000 cd and all the questions in the Saunders book and cd.

Yes I would just concentrate n questions and reading the rationales but would say read the rationales even if you got it right. Only review subjects if you feel they need reviewing

Well, I would tell you do what works for you. For me, Kaplan questions are fine. I make sure I read rationales and redo those I got wrong to see if I got it all down. Kaplan is excellent to me, and all my classmates that took and did only Kaplan passed with 75Qs but they say the test was harder than Kaplan. They say Qbank was helpful though.

I agree with Silverdragon. Practice question and do not forget to read the rationale and that is very important. Go to any reference book like Saunders if there is a topic on the question that you really don't understand. It help me a lot on my previous NCLEX-PN and passed. Now I am preparing for my NCLEX-RN.:wink2:

I took the NCLEX last week and found that it was good to review material. Looking at major diseases of each organ: brain, heart, lungs, kidney, liver, etc. Be able to recognize normals of lab values and when what positions are helpful. However, you cannot only study. I just went through a Kaplan book and 2 tests that came with it (no class) that I got for like $20 from a book company online. I seriously thinks this helped me during the NCLEX because the questions are so extremely similar, I can't even tell you. These are the two things I did and just found out I passed. This is what worked for me at least! (And lots of prayer to be able to have enough mental focus to go through all 265 like I did!)

Yes! I think your doing the right thing know your content. yes, do questions but you need to know your content. Doing questions is helping you to get familiar in answering questions and learning some information, but you need to still know your content. I am doing nclex 3500 and 4000 like 150 questions a day and i am doing the hurst review. I think your heading on the right track just review your questions and use text and saunders to get the main info. Also, read all your rationales. :wink2: you will be fine!!!! Still apply your review that you still took as well. good luck.
