As for the books, you can find the nursing dictionary and medical math in the college book store. They are located with the nursing books and both are required. As for the medical terminology, I'm not sure if there is a book for that however I wouldn't bother buying one. They provide you with a medical terminology packet in NSG 126 which you will take your first semester. It has everything that you need to know.

I bought a math for meds book at borders. I also took the med term class since I was waiting and wanted to take more classes. Thankfully I did that since I am in the patho class now and would be totally lost if I didn't have a little background in it. They sell the med term book at the book store, I even bought the small companion one it was like 16.95 or something like that. I wanted to know ahead of time some of the stuff.

I agree with JustAnIllusion, all the books you'll need will be in the bookstore. The math book that is usually mandatory is by Curren titled Math for Meds 9th edition, just in case u really want to be ahead of the game. And as an FYI if you wanna spend a little extra money, look in the hfcc registration book for a medication calculation dosage class, sometimes they'll have it. If not ask. I think there is a part one and part two. Personally I don't think you'll need it but I have talked with a few people who said that it really helped them. I did hear that the nursing program may/will change the math competency requirement to 100% instead of just passing by 90%. So this class may help you.

As for the terminology book, as it was said before they provide what you need during your first semester. But if you really wanna get a head start while you are on the wait list and can afford to part with some greenbacks, then i would suggest the Medical Terminology class. And remember to stock up on note cards, they become real handy when studying.

Hey WCCCD offers two medical math courses. One is HSC 100 and is a one credit hour, 8 week course offered twice a semester. This one is required for their nursing program and is very thorough! The other one is a 3 credit hour course and is offered online and on campus. Not sure what book they use for this class, but HSC 100 uses Math For Meds by Anna M. Curren 9th Ed.

I highly recommend taking a math class BEFORE nursing classes, as well as, a medical terminology class. Both of these classes can only benefit you and help you to succeed.

Congrats on getting on the waiting list! I hope to be on it in December. I have to take Chemistry first.

I'm also trying to learn ahead of time. I plan to get all the calculations down pat. It's been a while since I've taken A&P so right now I'm trying to re-learn and inbed into my long term memory all the bones of the body as well as the parts of the brain, the entire heart process etc. I'm so glad HFCC has a waiting list, that way we can prepare ourselves ahead of time. :)
