I bought "Excelsior College Nursing Exam 1-8 study guide" off ebay. It seems pretty thorough. It breaks down each exam into sections and then further still into smaller sections. There are practice quizzes, lots of medical terminology stuff and test-taking tips, and other goodies.
I bought an old fundamentals text off amazon for 5 bucks to read as review.
I hope to get my "system" down soon, ya know, my method of studying.
Which, if any, study guides did y'all find helpful? Which ones most closely resemble the content and style of the actual exams?
I cannot see myself buying all the suggested texts. Can you all hint at the best cover-all ones?
thanks! and good luck to everyone else just starting out like me!

I am only working on Chronicity right now, so more will chime in with more test taking experience. Going through this much material, I can't imagine trying to really grasp all the concepts without doing the required readings in the EC content guide. Some of it is so lengthy and took me far longer than what the content guide suggested, but I felt so prepared for Heath Saftey and scored an A. At that time I only used the recommended text bookds, EC content guide and the 2 EC practice exams. I finished all of my reading and I did purchase lisa arrends guide from ebay and Studyguide101 and they seem very good for a review. The 101 practice exam seems very worthwhile. I would keep trying to get more texts from ebay or amazon. Some people have posted that they are able to get very reasonable prices! I just got my REPO book for less than $40 for shipping!! Good luck and happy studies!!! :)
thanks! What I am afraid of is having so many texts and study guides that I end up overwhelmed with content.

I strictly used studygroup101 and larends (both eBay sellers) for all my nursing exams. The only one I used adjunct material on was LS2, because I just couldn't get the endocrine system down pat.

I borrowed a med-surg book and bought the pysch book because it was such a good text. You can do fine with the study guides which is what I used. I referenced other books as needed, which I got from the public library.l

If you don't want to buy all of the texts, then consider borrowing them from a library for free. You can get an interlibrary loan for any book that is not held by your local branch. While one can usually pass the exams using only one of the study guides, you really should do the background reading, at least once. Good luck with the program.
