please help,
my program starts in january and i am having trouble qualifying for student loans beyond the ones secured via my fafsa due to my very poor credit rating (bankruptcy).
my co-signer has excellent credit but that fact has not seemed to help.
chase has already declined me, discover and wells fargo have told me that i will not qualify due to my poor credit.
has anyone out there managed to secure private student loans with a poor credit or can i just count on working/begging/personal loaning my way through my program?
thank you for any advice you can give.

What about a Federal Stafford loan? That's what I use and it's not based on credit. Try talking to the financial aid office at your school.

I agree, a Fed. Stafford loan is probably your best option. They don't even check your credit

When I applied for loans last year, I also had bad credit and a co-signer, and was able to get a loan from Sallie Mae. Maybe you'll have some luck with them too?

i think the loan she was talking about was the stafford loan. in my experience they only lend me according to number of credit hours i am taking for the semester. there will be a time that once i enter ns that i will need more than what they have given me for full time (12 hours) since i won't be working. do any of you have asked for more and stafford loans have given y'all more?
op-i am sorry you're having to worry about this. my only advise is try other banks, smaller banks, or trying to get other co-signers. good luck!
I used to ask for more every semester and was given more. They have subsidized and unsubsidized. I have to pay it back now but saved my lifw when I was in school
Thank you, I will:yeah: try Sallie Mae.

i wound up taking out the subsidized and unsubsidized federal loans and I did have to work as a CNA during school....working can be done with school....and you may have to. i tried to not work during first semester, and the unexpected expenses nearly made me have to quit school....gl to you whatever happens. (PS i was able to get one with national city, but not every school takes private loans.)
