I am a nursing major, and I decided that nursing is not for me. I like the material but hate the clinicals... I think I picked nursing for the wrong reasons: high possibility of a job after graduation (if at all), financial stability, a headstart on my finances and investing (if i had a job right away), and independence (not living with my parents until I'm 30 and living life on my own).Throughout my college years, the thought about becoming a veterinarian has been crossing my mind constantly. I guess animals are the closest thing i have to a 'passion.' In order to start a path to become a vet, I need to change majors, gain tons of animal/vet experience, take an exam, and hope to get in by the time I'm like 30 ( I'm 20 at the moment). These reasons were why I decided to not become a vet. I'm really stressed out about this. What should I do?Regards,Tina

I was a nursing major...have worked in healthcare for 5 years as an ER tech. I love/hate my job. I realized while I love working in the hospital...I'm starting to HATE being so involved with patient care. That's why I decided to switch to Respiratory Therapy. I can still be involved but not as involved as a nurse.. I can still work in the hospital...
We can't make the choice for you. You need to do something you can see yourself doing for the rest of your life. I don't see a very happy future for myself as a nurse... they deal with a lot god bless them... but i see myself being in a miserable job i hate if I were to continue with nursing..but thats just me...

Is it hospital nursing you don't like or nursing at all? After deeply looking within myself I realized I don't really think hospital nursing is right for me. The way some have described it I just can't see myself although I know I'd adjust because I do so in whatever I choose. I found clinic nursing to be the calling for me and I was just hired as a public health nurse. People look at me crazy when I say I will be happy working 8-5, M-F for 40,000 a year. I can't see myself anywhere else. I do a little of everything, I loved labor and delivery and I will be giving prenatal care and breastfeeding support and a variety of other things. I hope you find what you love, it's tough contemplating whether this truly is the profession for you.

I don't think any of us (strangers on a message board) are really qualified to tell you what to do. What does your heart tell you?

Follow your heart. You are far too young for regrets. :)

Op, I felt like I was making a mistake all they back to pre nursing. Now i am in my mid 20s and more resigned. It only gets more complicated and difficukt to switch careers or go back to school. No one can tell you what will be best or where you will be happier.
