Strange Question

Published

This is a strange question but I’d be grateful for your input.  I am an RN and am scheduled for an interview tomorrow for an infusion nurse position.  The Hr department have advised me that as part of the interview process I will be required to start an IV on the hiring manager.  I was somewhat taken aback with that knowledge and wonder if anyone else had encountered such a request.

Specializes in school nurse.

This is one weird request! (I suppose if you really want the job you can always IVP something good...)

Specializes in Trauma ICU.

That sounds unconventional but I like it. A nurse in an infusion clinic must be good at starting IVs. Remember to grab a warm compress and allow the alcohol to dry entirely. They may be watching to see you following protocols. Good luck!

That is a strange request! Did you get the job?

Specializes in ER, HH, CTICU, corrections, cardiology, hospice.

It happened to me years ago. For an IV nurse in a chelation clinic.

I learned how to start an IV on my classmates in EMT-I school. I thought it would be the same in nursing school, it wasn’t.
