Hello NYNewGrad!
Sorry I did not see your posting earlier, was away from the 'puter (plus this piece of ____ computer knows I am in fear of it, fear that it will, one day, completely DIE on me! hehehe)
Okay, well I attended Stony Brook's FNP program for about 2 years, but dropped out (my oldest son was critically injured while serving in Iraq - Down Range) Now I am hoping to re-enter the program, but missed out on the deadline for the Spring semester (March 1).
Plus I am going to change from FNP to Adult NP. Why? Well, I don't think I can care for sick and/or dying children anymore, and the FNP requires rotation in neonatal and pedes.
I like the program alot. Stony Brook does require an on site, three day orientation, and it is not negotiable (I tried - sly grin)
The professors are all top notch.
If you have never attended a distance type program before, be prepared for a lot of required written/submitted work. Plus, if you are from another state other than NYS, you might have a wee bit of a problem finding a clinical preceptor (explanation: when I was in the California State University Dominguez Hills BSN distance program, I had a heck of a time finding someone to be my preceptor for a lousy 48 hours because I was considered an "out-of-state" student. Go figure!
Hey, let us/me know how your admission process went!
All the best,
athena
Hey Athena, Thanks for the response.
Its my first time doing a completely online program, so I was a little concerned about the quality of learning and such. Your post made me feel a little better about it. ;-) I'm from NY so hopefully finding the right preceptor wont be an issue. Ill let you know how it goes....

Hello. I read your post and I believe that you may be the only one here who can help me. I am applying to Stonybrook Uinv online ANP program. Are you still enrolled? Is it time consuming? Is it difficult? How are the exams? Are the professors knowledgeable? Any info you could give me would be helpful.

hey, sorry to restart an old thread. Can anyone give an update on this program. I am about to start the application process for Summer 2011. I have had some online classes in my BSN program so I am familiar with the format. The theory classes I don't have a problem with being online, but how hard is Pharm, assessment and Patho online. I feel it would be difficult to digest that information without a lecture. How does clinical work? Are you completely on your own or do they provide leads? the website is somewhat lacking in information so thanks in advance for any answers.
