Does anyone use a ultrascope stethoscope? It is a stethoscope that was invented by an RN and usually runs about $100.00. I have been looking into a Litman and wondering if that was any better. If anyone has suggestions on what works the best, I would love some input on it. Thanks

I went to a medical supply store and the clerk was nice enough to allow me to try all of the stethoscopes in stock. I listened to my own breath and heart sounds with each and every one, and decided that a $35 Prestige Clinical Lite stethoscope would suffice. It picks up sounds really well and only weighs 4 ounces.

I have a nice Littman. I bought a cheap stethoscope to use in HH until my 2 months leave was over from the hospital and I got my Littman back out of my locker. The cheap stethoscope actually picks up lung sounds better than my nice Littman. It came in a kit with a tote bag and a spigmo. I really like it, and still using it. It's orange and kinda ugly so I'll continue to use my Littman at the hospital. Image, you know........!

On our Med-surg floor, most of the nurses have an Ultrascope. They say that it is better than any Littman.

If you search the threads, you'll find one or two (being sarcastic here) threads on the virtues of littmans ultras and all the rest. I think the thing to do is see which one works for you. I'm using an el cheapo that can hear through cinder block walls. Try a few different ones out.

I bought a DRG and loved the acoustics but it was too lunky to carry around my neck so I gave it to my daughter. Its perfect for her, she does hospice home care so good sound is important. It also has an antimicrobial diaphram, I bought an extra set of 6.
I use a littman at work and deal with the disposable scopes for the isolation patients. My first littman with broken tubing taped together still has better sound than the throwaways.
