Stethescope advice?

I am beginning my job in the NICU on 1/21 and I was wondering what stethescope you all would recommend? Thank you!

The facility that I work at provides us with Stethoscopes to cut down on infection from a nurse passing her stethoscope from one baby to the next, and we use the Littmann classic 2 infant type and they work great. I have no trouble with them.

We use the same ones and love them!

Each baby gets one upon their admission and it stays with them the entire time that they're there. We of course clean them regularly while that same baby is there (and in between babies of course) - but having one at each bedside helps cut down on infection rates.

Each baby gets their own Littmann? Isn't that expensive? We have the cheapo stethoscopes for isolation babies that are pretty much garbage, but we all have our own for regular use. I personally have a Littmann, some of the other nurses I work with use other brands. We clean with antimicrobial wipes between each baby.

We have a Littmann for every baby too. Once in a while if one gets dropped behind a crib or whatever and it's emergent, we'll swipe a neighboring one off with alcohol and use that, but it's discouraged. When a babe is discharged we clean their steth with the wipes we use for surfaces and keep it in a drawer in the bedspot for the next one. Not sure what the cost is.

Yeah when we admit a baby they get a stethoscope. When we have kids that have been around for a while I switch them out everynow and then for our unit aids to clean, because lets face it even with alcohol swabs after 60 days with a bunch of people using the stethoscopes the ear peices are going to be a bit yucky.

Thank you everyone!

I just heard back from my manager and I don't have to purchase one either. They do the assign a baby one upon admission as well.
