Steps in getting a US working Visa for RNs. Specifically for the California State

Hi guys, can anybody please share your journey in obtaining work visa as a RN specifically in the State ofCalifornia. I just don't know where to start. eg. Visa Screen etc. I graduated & currently practicing as a RN in New Zealand. Already recieved my eligibility letter to take NCLEX. I'm just organizing the immigration side of it so that when the time comes I know what are the steps to take. Thank you for your help.

What visa are you looking at? You are aware immigrant and work visa for most are employer driven if you don't have immediate family that can file immigrant visa for you. Regardless unless you marry a USC you are looking at several years wait for immigrant visa and if work visa generally looking at employer filing April with Oct start if successful with interview and employer willing to pay the many $$$$ it will cost. Visa screen certificate will be required but may be worth only applying for it once you know what is happening as it expires after 5 years and dependent on where you was born will depend on how many years it will take to get immigrant visa

Visa issue aside, what state do you receive your NCLEX-RN eligibility in?

You should know that if it was in a state that doesn't require a SS# to take the exam, you'll still not be able to endorse (transfer if you will) that state's RN license into CA without a valid SS# or any state that wants to see a SS# on the application (the SS# that allows one to have work permission versus just to take the exam or to drive a car or for ID purposes).
