which state would you prefer to be in? ^neophyte here^

hello fellow RNs!:balloons:

I am a fresh grad and just recently passed the NLE here in P.I. This coming October, I will be a volunteer in a hospital. I am also planning to take the NCLEX exam and so I am doing some research on how to apply and which state will be easier to get in. Can I have some of your ideas and facts about the states in USA. I am confused and I dont know where would I apply...Thanks in advance Have a nice day!

    I assume you are Filipino. Southern California might be a good fit for you, as there's a large Filipino population in that particular region.

    Yes, California is a time-consuming state if you are seeking initial nursing licensure. It simply takes longer.

    The most populous states are California, Texas, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, and Ohio.

    California is the only state that has legally-mandated nurse/patient ratios for acute care facilities (hospitals). If you do hospital work in California on a med/surg unit, you will receive no more than 5 patients.

    Weather conditions (i.e., snow, cold weather)

    As far as I know, all states require the applicants to undergo background checks. I don't believe that there are any states that will allow you to slip through the cracks by simply requiring an NCLEX exam only.

    I have moved your post to the International forum as more appropriate here. There is no quick way to move to the US as retrogression is still in progress which means no visas. You really need to look at where you want to live and apply to that state BON and save some money. You are looking at over 2 years before you will move to the US so plenty of time to research. There is also a sticky in the Philippine forum regarding places and crime stats. Depending on which state you apply to depends on requirements. I would suggest a good read on this forum especially threads on retrogression and the sticky called Primer to working in the US. There are also a couple of threads from other posters in both the Philippine and International forum on where to live, only you can decide but think about crime, lifestyle, affordability and weather.
