I have an idea for a website. I'm really pretty excited about it, but I'm going through prepartum moodswings, alternating between thinking it's a great idea, and thinking it's a dumb crazy idea. So I want to throw it out here and see what the response is - of course I really want it to be positive:yeah:because I can't see myself giving up on this!
I already registered the domain name. ... I want it to be fun and funny, but it will be serious too. It will basically be about everything that is insane about all aspects of the System that we work in, and will be filled with stories emailed to me by nurses in all fields of nursing. Everything will be anonymous, and there will no be comments, so folks can really tell it like it is. I will also have a blog on the site touching on more or less related matters, and there will be other fun features, like annotated copy, and weekly polls (sneak preview: []nursing care plans really help me to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care [] nursing care plans are a stupid waste of time) Oh dear, I hope I haven't offended anyone . . . there I go again with my insecurities . . .
I have a handle on all the technical aspects, just want to know if it strikes a chord with people . . .

If u wanna do it, go for it. *build it and they shall come* :)
You can get some great ideas from blogs that sound similar. Try looking at the happy hospitalist, panda bear MD and nurse K (and other er and nurse related blogs) on blogspot.com. Good luck!

This is too funny....you need to quit while ahead. You should have seen the uproar created by another poster offering to create a separate website for a certain specialty in nursing.

You'd have to walk a fine line - the same line we walk when deciding say, how to talk to the family. Our profession has fought hard for every inch of the (significant) respect and credibility we have. The general public in internetland doesn't for the most part share that same perspective.
For example, in acute psyche, I have profoundly different understanding of suicide than your average internet surfer. Things I say clinically are easily misconstrued as "less than therapeutic" when taken out of context - a context that's difficult to establish via text someone reads on a computer monitor.
Would I like to see some of the stereotypical sacharrine sweetness replaced by some edge? Something that would recognize complexity and depth? The ugly as well as the beautiful? Something that would bolster self confidence and make us more assertive advocates for our patients and ourselves? You bet!
Do we need to vent? To share our frustrations? To call something stupid or assinine? Sure. But not at the expense of the the integrity of our reputation. There's better ways to go about that - like listening and learning from those who've been on the unit for 30+ years, or taking your coworkers out to the diner to decompress over coffee after a particularly brutal shift. Get on cafepress and look at some of nurse stuff people are selling there. Plenty of attitude that'll make you howl laughing. I love my "RELAX. I'm a nurse. I've seen worse" hoodie.
Good Luck with the site. I look forward to checking it out.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Years ago, there was a really odd site called weirdnursingtales.com. Lots of crazy (supposedly true) stuff on that site. They even posted a weird but true nursing story of mine. The site is defunct now, though.

Hmm, I'm not sure that you're going to get a lot of traction there because it doesn't seem to offer anything that you can't already find here. I could be wrong, though.
Speaking from my own experience, I don't have the time to hang out here all that much and it's not likely that I'd add another nursing site to my feed. If I'm going to increase the bandwidth coming in then I'd probably look for something complementary.
Blogs/websites are a ton of work and if you want it to flourish then you're going to have to really dedicate yourself to it.
Best of luck if you decide to take the leap.

Why don't you just post what is wrong/insane with the system here. I'm too lazy to expand my website viewing beyond the favorite 4 I frequent. If you post it here I will read it and respond with witty remarks.

Sarcolemma,
I have NO idea what you are talking about. Besides when I bought my computer the only website that would pop up is this one. Google must be broken. Everything in MODERATION though, make sure you are studying the anesthesia books as much as you are investigating these so called sites.

Val,
He's back and comes up with some great songs now, although his voice leaves something to be desired.
