There are Memorials all over the place!

I.m a scholarship recipient for Memorial Healthcare system and right now they dont even have any positions to place us in. They are not hiring New grad RNs who are not scholarship recipients, and the positions they do have open are for experienced RNs only. But to answer your question, my friend who was fortunate enough to get the ONE positon they did have open was started at $23/hr at Memorial West. This occured last week, so its pretty updated. Hope this helps.

Hi Brownie! Thanks for the reply.. So what do they do if they dont have spots for the scholarship recipients? That stinks- im sorry :( Did anyone find anything at memorial miramar?

They have 120 dayes (4 months) to place us. If they are unable to, then, they forfeit the contract and we do not have to repay them the scholarship money they gave us ($12k). So in the meantime, I am looking elsewhere. Memorial Miramar is part of the Memorial Healthcare system, so the same goes there. They are not hiring external new RNs, their priority is to place the scholarship new RNs first. I know this sux!

Aww im sorry! Well good luck, im sure you'll find something soon! Let us know!

Yeah it sucks. Hopefully they can place internal candidates

They told me the same thing today too. This sucks big time.

Brownie3085,

Did they ever find a position for you?

Good luck.

Hi Kristou,

Unfortunately they still do not have anything opened, but I have given up that battle since I was offered two positions within two other hospitals!!!!! I have accepted one of the offers and my base is about $25, and since I will be working nights, I will earn an extra $3.50 on my base. Also, the friend of mine, who i mentioned in my earlier post who was given the position at Memorial West as a scholarship was told by the charge nurse that her starting pay would be $23, but when she went down to HR to complete her paperwork, she was told that it will actually be $22!!!! And since she will be working days, her only opportunity to make extra will be from 3p-7p when she receives the evening differential of $2. So i guees i lucked-up. Either way, we are both thankful we found a job! Thanks for asking :)

Hi Brownie,

Since I am a noobie to AllNurses.com, I am unable to e-mail/privately contact you but an aspect of your post intrigues me. I also live in South Florida. I am applying to nursing school (BSN programs) for next fall (2011). I am through one year of school with one to go before I start nursing school. So far I have a 4.0 gpa. I just started looking for ways to pay for nursing school. You mentioned a scholarship with Memorial Healthcare and I was wondering if you could tell me more about that. From your post, it seems like they provided funds for school with the return consideration that you would work for Memorial Health for a certain period of time. Any info you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Seann :)
