I am trying to get back into the CCSN rn program (had to withdrawl a few years ago, had babies, fulltime job, money probs). Life is on track and I tried to get my app in for the Fall but they already had well over 300 apps and wouldn't take my "late" app. Plus, my NLN exam will expire on oct 9th and next completion date will be Nov 1st. No one will waive it since we don't have a perm director yet. I found out that some received their acceptance letters on the 24th. When is your 10 day written acceptance due? That is when I will start calling to see if there are any avail spots. I have done all pre-reqs and have a good score on NLN and GPA. I was curious if you know how may points you had when you applied (deciding if I should do volunteer for the extra 2 points). Any feedback would be SOOOOOOOO helpful!! Good luck to you and if I am super lucky, I'll be right there with you in Fall class. Also, how hard was it to get your tetanus? The shortage kept me from getting mine.

they had 382 apps for a total of 128 spots.

i'm not sure when my acceptance was due, i turned it in the day after i got it. it was 2 or 3 weeks ago. i have been checking out the availablitly of classes online, and i know the lectures still have 18 spots available. i would think that there are that many spots left. i am not sure how they work it, i think they accepted 128 people, and then picked some alternates. i am not 100% sure though.

those were the only points i had too. i didn't have a prior degree or any health care experience. i had 13 points. the woman at the limited entry office said the cut off was 13 points. only half of the people who had 13 actually got in though. the had to do computer generated random numbers with everone that had 13 points. i guess i got really lucky! also, for the spring semester they are giving out 10 points if you completed biology 224, so it will be easier to get in if you have already completed it.

i didn't know there was a shortage... i just went to my dr's office and told them i needed it for school. they didn't say anything to me, just shot me up!
i really hope you are able to get in. let me know and i will look for you. :)
take care,
kristen

dang! looks like i won't get a chance to get in!!! if the cut off was 13 and they had to choose from those!! i think i have 21 points, got the high gpa, all pre reqs done, 124 on nln, but no degrees or prior experience. i'm just not sure about spending all that time with volunteer work to get 2 more points, but it would be a good experience (dr. conti).
you got your letter 2 weeks ago??? my friends friend got his on friday. well, it looks like i'll be the one asking you how to get through it!1! my one advise...take pharm in class!!!! i don't know how they offer it online, but all my friends say that was difficult! pharm was definately the hardest class 1st semester!
think about the offer from valley hospitals. they will pay for your school, you just have to work for them for 2 years afterwords. if you don't , its a no interest loan, paid back at your ability to pay. why not?????!!!!!
good luck!
already taken bio 224 (don't know how you could get through nursing school without knowing a & p ii. i'm taking biol 251 (micro) starting july 11th at nsc (6 week course, yikes!!!) after that, i'm only nursing classes.
another bit of advise...take lab after lecture. its sure nice to learn before acting. my lab instructor was rough and it seemed harder on those that took lab first. i took lecture, then lab, then clinical. that seemed to be the best way. listen, learn, act.

Lisa,
Thanks for all your advice!
As far as the volunteer work I wouldn't bother with it. I mean volunteer work is great, but if you already have all your pre-reqs completed and a high GPA you should be able to get in. Micro will help. I have EVERYTHING done except Poly Sci. There was no way I could go through the program, work full time, deal with my two little hellions, AND take Biol 224 or Micro!!!! It sounds like point wise you were very close to me. I got 5 points for GPA 3.5, 2 points for NLN 127 (one more point and I would have gotten 3 points :angryfire ), and then all the extra points for completed pre-reqs.
I bet your friend's friend was an alternate. We all got our letters a while ago (my friend got accepted too and she got her letter at the same time). They called us on June 7 to let us know we were accepted. It's lucky your friend got in!
As far as Pharm, all classes but 1 were offered online. I really have to take it online because I live for from WC campus. It is too difficult for me to get down there again. I have taken Math 100B already so I am familiar with dosages and stuff. I have been reviewing my book to get re-familiarized with it. I have also purchased a PDA with 2 different drug guides on it. I am hoping it will help.
As far as lab and lecture, I did not know that! I guess I got lucky because I picked my lab 1 hour after my 2nd lecture class. Whew! I'm so glad I did something right! The only thing is I have my clinical the day before my 1st lecture. I hope it works out well. I actually work much better hands-on. Hopefully by doing it 1st I can get a better grasp on it.
The Valley program would be great if I was staying here after I graduated, but I plan on moving out of state. It's alright though. Luckily I was blessed with grandparents that want nothing more than to see me actually do something worthwhile with my life and are paying for my schooling. Actually between my grandfather (my grandma passed away in the middle of last semester) and my mom, the only thing I have had to pay for this comming semester was my CPR class :) ) I am really lucky.
Well I hope it all works out for you. I would really apply for the Spring Semester and would ask them to make an exception on your NLN. If your points were like mine you have a really good chance at getting in. Just make sure you go soon. The application deadline for Spring is August 1st!
Take care,
Kristen
