Hi everyone! I'm starting excelsior today! I'm nervous, excited, and scared 2 death. Lol. I've been q LPN four yrs and with 5 kids and a pending divorce this option seemed perfect 4 me. Any suggestions as 2 which class 2 take first? I gotta do ALLThe general ed classes. Also anyone else in the North Texas area starting or recently started? Would love 2 study or at least help keep u motivated! Thanks guys!

I'm not in North Texas (no where near it, lol) but I too just stated Excelsior & have to take almost all of the gen eds as well:crying2: I actually just recieved my books in the mail today for Anatomy & Physiology...looks a bit overwhelming! If you want an online study buddy I would love to have some help :)

you can take 2 excelsior exams without being enrolled

1)Essentials of Nursing: Health & Safety

2)Transitions to the Role of RN

After enrolling you can take the last 5... I've taken them in order, but I've heard of people who mix it up.

3)Chronicity

4)Reproductive Health

5)Health Differences across Lifespan 1

6)Health Differences across Lifespan 2

7)Health Differences across Lifespan 3

As far as the general classes, I did all mine first, but you can do some while you wait on CPNE date if you wanted...I would def do A&P, Micro, & Lifespan Psych before the nursing...the refresher will help on the nursing exam. :-)

I would have waited to enroll until I was ready to transfer in general ed classes. Remember that you will be required to pay an administration fee each year after the first year, just to remain enrolled. Good luck with the program.

I enrolled now so that I could put my current student loans into an in school deferment. My lending companies allow me to do this if I am enrolled for at least 6 credits..otherwise I wouldn't have enrolled until I had to...

Hi - I'm just starting too - Not in Texas though. I'm in MA

I have recently started the Excelsior program also. They suggested to me to take Life Span Developmental Psychology and the Geriatrics courses first so that is what I am working on now. You can CLEP several classes instead of taking the Excelsior exam. They are alot cheaper. I think it is around $70 compared to $240. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Good reason to enroll early. You can make up for that extra time by moving quickly as you take tests and increase your completed courses. This can be done as quickly as you can handle it, down to the point where you have submitted your application to take the CPNE, and are waiting on a date. Good luck with the program.

You are able to put your student loans in deferrment with this program? I was under the impression that you couldn't since you are basically clepping out of everything.

I am starting as well. As far as I know, I have all of the gen eds done and am just waiting to get my transcripts reviewed. Until then, as was suggested to me in my own post!, I am starting to study for the first two exams to get everything started! I am not in N. Texas but if you want a study budy, I'd love to help/work with you.
