I work in the NICU, and we can have anywhere from 1 postop/ECMO/very sick kid up to 3-4 feeder/growers....never more than 4.

I have heard up to 13 at NY methodist hospital. I am not sure how true that is. Based off of my experience, the ICU tries to stay btwn 2-3 patients. The MICU at my last hospital did 3 tops if they were really short staffed but only 1-2 nurses would get 3 and they would try to give them the patients that had the lowest acuity. Generally though, they would have 2 patients.

I sent you a private message with more details but it was NY Presbyterian Cornell and yes I absolutely loved it. I moved out of state 5 months ago so I no longer work there.

yes I do!! stil alot of work though! hope you find something.

Just curious, is it due to lack of nursing staff or are they just trying to save a buck?

I dont think it's to save a "buck". Hospitals know the impact that staff shortage has on patient care. Nurses quit and get hired all the time. It's definitely a shortage issue.

so are they doing something? you see if they want to staff the hospitals they can.. look at california. they do follow strict standards.. and they find ways to staff them.. get travelers, offer bonuses, and just the thought that they work in a safe environment really attracts nurses.. by the way, my employer in NYC did not give me any relocation allowances or any bonuses.. is it like that up there? because the one in CA is offering me a relocation.. I just love NYC thats why I chose NY.

IMO I think that they do try. I know when my unit has staffing issues they get out and recruit and hire new nurses. I have never seen a NYC hospital offer sign on or relocation bonuses though. People are attracted to NY just because it is NY. You moving from FL to NY is a prime example.
