I am going to buy my sister a stethoscope for xmas, she's starting nsg school in the winter. I want to buy her a Littman, but we have a limited budget, and that one is a good price.

Do any of y'all have one, and if so what do you think of it?

I think it would be a great gift. I dont have one quite like that, but a LOT of students in my class have them. THe only reasons I bought the master cardio are

1) My job said they'd reimuburse me (whether they actually will or not is another story lol)

2) That was the only Littmann the store had left and we start clinicals in a couple weeks

I would advise against the lightweight version of the Littman line. I got one at the beginning of nursing school, and couldn't hear a thing. Now I use the standard Littman, and have much better results with my assessments.

Strangely enough, I can't stand my high-end Lippman!!! I can hear BETTER with a little cheapie...also wish I hadn't gotten the bell, because it just adds to the difficulty. Don't feel bad you can't get an expensive 'scope, maybe the one you choose will turn out to be a good match for your sister's style of listening...I did NOT have good luck listening with the Littman you mentioned with the "arrowhead" that goes under the bp cuff...but everyone seems to hear differently!!!

That was my concern w/the lightweight. My littmans are not lightweights, so I am not familiar with using that version and was concerned.

i, personally, like my lightweight littman. i don't have problems hearing with it. now, i don't work on a cardiac floor where i need to be able to listen to specific murmur disorders or whatnot, but i am able to easily hear adventicious lung sounds or the presence/absence of bowel sounds. when i was in nursing school, i had a sprague ii stethoscope.. i didn't know any better. they are easy for listening but, heavy and bulky for wear. you go down the hall running in an emergency and those things will bonk ya right in the head.. ouch!

everyone is different. everyone prefers different types/styles of steths. i will continue to keep my lightweight littman... i can't even feel that i have it on.

The best scope to get is the one you can hear the best with. You may need to try several- my best luck was with a $15 cheapie that the hopsital stocked for disposal in isolation rooms. Now im using a standard Littmann and it works ok. Cant hear crap out of the higher end Littmanns though. Want to try one of those high tech amplified ones someday.

I have this exact stethoscope and love it. For me, I am able to hear very well as compared to the lower priced version (not sure which model) which is $40 less. If your budget allows for $40 extra for this one, I would get it.

The link posted, that's the kind of stethoscope i have in Ceil Blue. I love it. Lighttweight AND i can hear perfectly with it.

Well thanks for the opinions. I appreciate it! I'm either going to get her a master cardiology and split the cost with my parents, or I'm going to just go ahead and get the lightweight one.

I swear by my DRG cardiology scope. Littman is only one of several excellent brands. Try them all.
