Help! I have been so depressed lately. I have been working in the NICU/nursery for about two months. I feel so overwhelmed. Yesturday I just broke down and cried at work in front of everybody. I feel so incomptent (sp?) I feel like I am never going to catch on. I had my first ventilator patient yesturday and my csection delivery baby went bad and had to be admitted to NICU and put on vent. I feel like I bug the crap out of my prec. But everyone is sooo nice and patient with me. I could not ask for a better place to work as far as the people. I dont know if I should consider another area or what. I love love love working in there but I just dont know if I will ever learn. Oh well thanks for listening

I PROMISE you...it will come with time. I have been doing Labor & Delivery for almost 2 years now and it's finally getting a lot easier for me (although I'm still shaking like a leaf AFTER an emergency situation).
Don't know if I could handle L&D without the assistance of all you wonderful nsy/NICU nurses!!!
Please hang in there and take it a day at a time. :flowersfo

I am sorry for how you are feeling. Try to be more positive and try to absorb everything. I bet things will be much better soon with the experience. Good luck.

You can do it! Just remember, you did not learn how to become a nurse overnight (or even in 2 months, for that matter), but yet you did that - you can do this too. You have come so far, it will come with time. Keep your chin up, take a deep breath and relax. It sounds like you have a wonderful support staff, I'll bet if you ask them, they will tell you that they went through very similar feelings and various points in their careers as well. You probably went though something similar in college too - you get to that point where you feel totally overwhelmed and think you can't take it anymore, but then you push on and, before you know it, you are just fine again. It is normal to get scared, but don't let that stop you. If you really want to work NICU, then it will all come in time, and you will learn everything that you need to know. My dream is to some day be where you are now, and, by the time I get there, you will be a pro and probably telling me to hang in there - it'll all be ok.
Thanks for all your replies and good wishes. Sorry I am just now writing back I live in Mississippi and we are just getting power back from the hurricane. Thanks again! I already feel better about it :)
