I've been in the IT field for 6 yrs and am not quite satisfied with it (though the pay is good). Been thinking of doing nursing but I'm on H1B. Is it possible for me to do part-time course or online courses and get a nursing degree? I dont have this option to switch my professional field in my home country!
Anyway the questions are-
1. Can a H1B take up nursing course part-time?
2. I've a 4-yr bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering. Do I need to take up any other course before joining the medical field?
3. Given this, what is the best nursing course for me?
Thanks for all your inputs and help!

If you are currently connected to a company who sponsored your H1B, get some serious advise from a lawyer. The reason is that your company might feel a conflict of interest between your IT job and nursing. They might cancel your working visa. However, if your company is Health related, then you can point out that you want to be a Nurse Informatics and they might finance your studies.

You are permitted to study while on a H1B, so long as you maintain the conditions of your visa - which would be very difficult to do while studying nursing and doing clinicals etc.

That can be very expensive since you would have to pay international fees. Working part time and going to nursing school is very doable, but also very hard. You would really have to switch your schedule around at work in order to accomodate nursing. You're also going to be limited on where you can apply to nursing school since your H1b visa is employer based and most likely you would have to stay near your area. Start by doing your nursing research by visiting campuses near you. Good Luck
