So many of you may I know I went to college for medical assisting. I have been training at a hospital as a nursing assistant with no prior experience. I have been bidding on jobs a few weeks ago for thje heck of it. Some lady tracked me down today at work and started talking to me about this unit clerk position. I felt awkward because here I am training..thought someone was going to hear. I called her when I got home and talked to her a little more. She said I dont have to interview and that I can have the job. What do you think?

That is great. I would call yourslef as blessed. If I was you I would take both because I love doing both of those. I would get on both knees and hands to have what you are being offered. I am being offered a position as a CNA in training but worried about my free weekends having to work 24. I will try to make something work because I would love to work in a hosptial. Good Luck in what you choose.

I am going to be totally honest. I've read most of your prior posts. I can't believe you are considering another position when you don't even have a handle on the one you have yet. You complained you didn't get all the info you needed for the NA job. Have you researched this position completely?? Do you know the hours, pay and expectations? Do you know who will train you and for how long? Do you know if there is an orientation process?
You have to be ON YOUR GAME to be a unit clerk. You have to be very comfortable with the computer system and be a multi-tasking queen.
Your department is not going to be very happy with you. They have spent all this time working with you and training you and now you want to bail. You're putting a bad taste in the DON's mouth. It's natural to want to improve yourself and move up the ladder but you barely got your feet wet. Have you thought about what happens if you accept and you hate the job. What then? Doubtful anyone will let you back into a NA position because you left the first one so quick.
Good luck no matter what you do but you're still not in the field that you trained in. IMHO.

I remember you complaining about the job you have now not offering enough hours. Is this job part-time as well? Would the hours complement each other?

cmm4ever, why are you always offered the job that I WANT !! I'm going to the closet now, I'm going to get in it and shut the door and I'm going to scream.
interceptinglight. LMAO
So far from what I talked to the manager regarding the unit clerk position was : 1) Its the same hours 7-3 days, 2) Also union. 3) From what the union book says, I have to double check, but I think it will be $2.29 MORE AN HOUR. 4) I WOULD GET 4 TO 6+ weeks of training because there is Im sure alot to learn. She thought this would be more in my area. They have to hire within first before they move onto applicants who applied outside. I guess people who were more senior than me it wasnt going to work out for some reason. She said I was next and she saw what I went to school for. I have knowledge of medical terminology which will be helpful. I would like to meet with her and discuss further before making a decison. I may never get an offer like this again. Im sorry, but I think some peole on my floor would do the same thing if they were offered a higher paying job. I was trained in both clerical/clinical (even though my college wasnt the best), so I would have to say it is part of what I went to school for. Something to think about.

Maybe you are better suited to the clerical aspect of healthcare?
I think, since it was offered and it was even suggested that "this is more your area", you should take it.
Realistically, they may see that you struggle on the floor as an aide, but like you and see potential in you.
You ask a lot of questions which shows you want to learn.
I wish you success.
Thank you. Yes I probably should call the other manager soon, but not sure what will go on with the na position, and Im supposed to work tomorrow. I think it would be a waste of time to continue training if I accept the other job. I would like to meet with the other manager from the other floor and talk more, but not sure when that will happen. I just feel weird/think it would be a waste to go into work this week then. I think I was just next on the seniority list, and that she saw what I went to school for. Thanks again :)
