Should I even Apply

Published

I have been working towards my nursing basics and this semester was it before I apply for the fall. My GPA is 3.3 and I'm freaking out because I don't even know if I should apply since its low. I hate to be put back another semester so I don't know what to do. Help!!! I thought about retaking classes this next semester but I don't want to start retaking classes then get into a school. Please someone give me some advice!!!

If your GPA meets the min req to apply then apply. Although it is true that the average is much greater than the min, the school would set it's min higher if that's only what it is looking for. Hopefully you can put together a good overall package (essay, resume, letters of rec, test scores) to compliment your GPA.

hi Rachel,

Personaly, I think you should apply. I'm sure its not imposible to get accepted with a 3.3. I'm kind of in the same situation. I have only a 3.0 right now and im planning to apply to a bsn program. As far as i know from what the consoler told me, i have a shot. I am asumming that the program you are applying for will not start untill atleast next fall if you are trying to apply this soon. If that is the case and your financal situation will allow, then maybe just take a few classes this coming semester and try to do better in them.

Just a thought,

Travis

it is not just your GPA that they are looking at - they are looking at you as a whole person. If your GPA is above the "min" requirement - then go for it - what do you have to lose other than the application fee and you gain practice etc. if you were not to get in - go back to the admissions office and ask what you would do to improve your over all application.

I'd go ahead and apply. If you don't get in, re-take the lowest courses in the Fall. You'll have the time to do them again anyway. Good Luck!

I agree, I think every school is different. In my case they take other things into account before GPA, how many classes you have complete, what grades you made in math and science weighs more, the your pretest. If it comes down to two people that are about the same then they look at GPA, it's worth a shot!! Go for it!

i think a 3.3 is a good gpa to apply to a nursing program. i was worried about a 3.8 and when i applied to the schools i was interested in, i was accepted to all of them. this was an indicator to me that the majority of nursing students do not have 4.0’s when applying. in fact, in the program i chose to attend, a student must have a minimum of a 2.75 to apply. one person in our cohort had a 2.93 and was accepted. you don’t ever know until you apply.

Thank you for all of your wonderful information!!!!I'm definitley going to apply :)

Thanks for asking (and answering) this made me feel uber better too since the GPA average here for acceptance is 3.8... but I feel better and revamped.. :)
