Should I Apply???

To be guaranteed acceptance into my schools nursing program you need to have at least a 3.45 and sometimes a 3.5

My current GPA is sitting at a 3.40

I don't handle rejection very well so I'm afraid that getting a letter telling me I'm not accepted would break my heart.

So do I take the risk and apply with a .05 GPA lower then the cutoff or do I wait until January to apply when I know I'll definitely be accepted?

I think you should apply. Just don't give your hopes up. Go into this knowing you may not be accepted, but it's ok if you're not--you know you'll get in next time. Just think of it like this,...if you apply now and get in, you'll accomplish your goal of being a nurse that much sooner, but, if you do not apply, you may "kick" yourself later, if you learn you could have gotten in. KWIM?

Good luck on whatever you decide! :)

Go in knowing that you might not get it, that way its less of a blow.

Apply anyways. The cut off GPA might be different this time. Good luck. You never know you might get accepted.

I think that you should call and speak to the head of admissions and ask this question! It is the best way to really know the answer. Then you can kinda explain your situation, and you never know they may say they make exceptions for students that are very close to the required GPA. I think thats what I would do, instead of applying without the minimal GPA requirement. Good Luck!

I agree with Noel. It's important that you ask and find out. Especially since you are sensitive to rejection. Some schools are very strict with their requirements and some give leeway. For example, the school I applied to, I went to their Information Session and the Director of Nursing herself said do not apply if your GPA doesn't satisfy the minimum grade requirement. She said people apply anyways and yes they get an automatic rejection letter. Their minimum is 3.0, and they send rejection letters for those who have a 2.99. That's how strict they are.

To clarify.

I have the minimum GPA required to apply to the program (which is a 3.0) very easily. But because it is so competitive the lowest GPA that usually gets accepted is between a 3.45 - 3.5, and I'm at a 3.40 because of one B (I have more then one B, but if one of my Bs was an A I would be guaranteed acceptance) :(

Can you apply now just to see what happens and if you do not get accepted, reapply in January?

That's what I'm debating. I'm just frustrated because my mom went and told everyone I start clinicals when I haven't even applied or been accepted yet so there's all kinds of correcting to do. She has a habit of speaking before clarifying.

Since you have clarified, just apply and then go through the agony of waiting.

If you don't get in, then brush yourself off, retake classes if you want, or apply to other nursing programs.

If you're halfway willing to wait until January anyway, then what do you have to lose? Go ahead and apply!
