Self care

Hi! I realized I have posted in several areas but haven't formally introduced myself yet. I just recently graduated nursing school on May 20 with a BSN degree. I recieved a job offer for my dream job (pediatrics in a great hospital) a couple of weeks ago. Currently I am preparing to take the NCLEX on July 1. I have been a lurker here for quite awhile. A lot of times I do a yahoo search for something nursing related and I come upon this site so last night I decided to officially join.

As we know, left care has been strongly emphasized in nursing school, so I thought I would start a thread where we can share what we do for self care or what you like to do for fun when time permits.

I looooooooooove arts and crafts. I love to draw and paint the most. Been doing it pretty much my whole life before nursing school. In fact, at one point almost decided to go to art school but then decided the nursing field would be a lot more rewarding and art is better of being a hobby. Other than that, I am a big fan of American Idol. Not so much in Season 5 but I was a huge fan of Season 4. My absolute favorite contestant ever is Anthony Fedorov (miracle boy with the voice of an Angel)who came in 4th place in season 4. Carrie Underwood is my absolute favorite winner of all 5 seasons. There's just something about their presence and music that really soothes me, especially when I'm under a lot of stress. I'm also starting to like to do a bit of cooking. I get inspiration from Giada DeLaurentiis and her "Everyday Italian" show.

Surfing the net! Reading, walking the dogs, yoga, bowling, cooking. That's about all I have time for right now. :)

Sorry for double post.

Surfing for me too. Gardening, and attracting birds to my garden. Studying birding by ear. Hanging out with my honey. Reading and collecting newsletters on all types of complementary, and nutritional medicinal care. Reading about, collecting, and of course the drinking of wine. Reading/collecting books on fashion, wardrobe, and color. I think I'm collecting too much of everything already! No wonder it's so crowded in this house...But, I do have a great wine cellar. Oh, and last but not least, I read about, and utilize energetic work, and have other practitioners work on me.

Oh same here, moved from massage therapy as a fulltime career to nursing as a full time career shoving massage down to part time. But always like to make time to trade massage therapy with other LMT's. Massage is good for the soul!

Other than that, fishing, gardening, cooking, and the all time gregarious sport of fencing keeps me sane after a few long shifts at the hospital

Best wishes on the NCLEX, and congratulations on graduation!!!!!!!!!:balloons:

Love massage! And reflexology, my idea of heaven. Always wanted to learn fencing like Emma Peel (?), in that ancient show, the Avengers.
